Have had my Rossi Ranch Hand in 44 mag for a couple of years now and just got around to putting on a full stock. It was fun to shoot with that short butt stock, but more kind of a novelty. I saw that Rusty Woods was selling Rossi 92 Carbine Buttstocks for the Ranch Hand @ $109, so I picked one up last week. It was a nice Boyds stock in walnut with a plastic end cap.

Putting it on was really easy and required no fitting. Color match to the existing fore-end was surprising good and the overall finish was great. Overall fit was very good, nice and solid feeling when mounted, and overall length is now 29 1/2 inches. Just a couple spots where the fit was not perfect: top tongue close to the hammer the stock in-letting is just a bit off, bottom tongue, I need to trim the stock down a bit, where the stock butts up against the receiver just a little to wide - I can sand that down to width pretty easy too.

Overall opinion is this was money well spent. Now just got to do something about the stock sites. And maybe play around with making a removable extension for that short buttstock.

Makes for a fun and functional carbine now. Did mine quite a while ago with a stock from Precision in Texas. For a rear sight I went with the Skinner ghost ring/peep. Still had to mod it a little but now it's great.

Where did you get your Skinner ghost ring/peep sight from?

I still had trim a little off the bottom of the ghost ring to get it a little lower. Then shortened up the stud part to eliminate contact with the bbl. A taller ft sight may be easier, depending on the tools at hand. I'm fortunate to have a mill and lathe at home. Before pic, have to grab an after if you want. Group at 25 yrds of a bench

Just a quick heads up about my experience. I got the same stock last week threw it on and went and shot 50 44mag rounds. By the end of it the stock developed a bulge/crack at the rear tang. My diagnosis is that since the stock is such a loose fit (mine looked exactly like yours) and the only rearward point of contact absorbing the recoil is the top tang/tongue thus causing alot of stress. Since then I have "bedded" the stock for a more snug fit and engaged the top/front of the stock to the side more. Your milage may very.

Thanks for the pic Metalbender. That rear peep looks great. Maybe I'll go ahead and order that front sight just in case.

Nighthawk73, thanks for the heads up. What did you use to bed the stock and which area of the stock did you build up?
