Well this weekend I finally got me a Luger. A BYF 42 Black Widow. I know that name doesn't come from the Germans, it was made up by an American fellow, I can't remember his name.

Regardless this is my new toy. Overall it is in quite good shape. The rear toggle pin number doesn't match and the magazine is not correct but all other parts are numbers matching. This doesn't really bother me as I bought this to shoot and enjoy, not for collecting. I have wanted one for a long time but didn't want to spend huge dollars or end up with a worn out piece of poop. I wanted a decent shooter, so I think this one will fit the bill. I may try to find the correct magazine for it in the future.

I am one happy little fat man. Except for having to wait for the paperwork. :mad:

Very nice, congratulations! I don't have a black widow but do have a bakelite bottom FXO correct magazine should you be interested.
 
I believe that BYF is Mauser, the main manufacturer of WW2 Lugers. Hitler came to power in 1933 & secretly re-started production of Lugers until he demanded Luger production cease in late 1942 in favour of the Walther P38. Overall production exceeded one million units.

A totally unique concept that came to fruition from the Borchardt pistol, Georg Luger's redesign was a reliable stand alone pistol albeit a complicated design that worked. Good on you for buying one.
 
I'm on a quest to get myself one. I'm jealous you have the option of picking up one that hasn't been rebarrelled. I either have to pay to get it rebarreled even though I could do the job myself, or hunt down one that has the work done already.

Its even more fun when you are out the country back before there was a real internet.

So you get blindsided that there are entire categories of stuff you used to have but can't get again now you arrive back in Canada.......
