Let me first state that this is my first 'big boy gun'...other than my 870, everything else that I own is rimfire.

I'm totally hooked. Most likely will be forever broke now between ammo and accessories for this thing.

Winchester 150 power points were all that I could find locally, so that's what it got fed. I started at the 25 yard line to make sure it wasn't sighted in somewhere over in the next province, but my first shot was only an inch low and a tad to the left. After another couple of shots and a bit of fiddling (the norc rear sight assembly sucks donkey balls...I think they lubed it with sand), I moved over to the 100 yard line. I kept things just under 4 inches, which given the open sights and my giggling, I'm pretty happy with.

I took a couple of shots offhand with a hasty sling sort of loop up...both hit within the 12" target I was using, but just barely :p Lots of room for improvement there.

Other than that...the Peltor combat arms earplugs that I picked up worked great...comfy (as long as you don't mind stuff in your ears) and effective, and they don't mess with my glasses like over-the-ear protectors do.

All-in-all, great fun, and I'm looking forward to some genuinely nice weather...it was about ready to rain when I was out tonite.

Welcome to the addiction :). Mine works great with PowerPoints too. I'd strongly recommend stripping, cleaning and lubing the rear sight; the Chinese cosmoline it's packed with does seem to have an alarmingly high grit content; the sight's action is much improved by a good cleaning.

Plinking at the local wildlife range or in the back fields is fun, but if you like shooting for fun and for competition, contact the Saskatchewan Provincial Rifle Association. They have a 1200 yard range near Nokomis. There was also talk of having some service rifle matches in Dundurn. Search gunnutz for 'Dundurn' and see what you find.

For just out of the box, that is one nice looking M 14 ! The wood doesn't look half as bad as what guys have been complaining about either. Glad to hear it performs well too. Now go cut up your credit cards while you still have a chance . Congrats ! :dancingbanana:
