Finally got my first AR.

My opinion (as weightless as it may be) is people should get a few good firearms and shoot them lots, getting very comfortable with them. Instead of jumping on every good deal and impulse buy they have. Otherwise you will never develop really good muscle memory for the ones you do want to use lots. Guns are fun at first when new to you. But after that they are more of a developmental thing. And the fun comes from improving on yourself with the gun.

You bought 25 handguns in 5 months?

I agree, the first few months are more fun and play then skill, then you have to get really good it could take years.

yes, 25 in 5 months. I was out of control there for a while, and i liked the idea of having options :) it wasn't the best thing to do, but, i have fired many handguns in this short time and getting closer to my last 3 which i will keep. it's getting more tough now to sell the rest until i get down to 3.

anyways, i think i'll start my own thread about that issue!

Those babies eat ammo like no tomorrow. Gee, i miss the days of 30 rd mags when they were non restricted. Been through piles of them. Unfortunately, its a range gun these days. Have fun. I always liked the Bushmaster better....for their cool stickers.

I know. I am totally late for the party. My friend always tells me of the glory days of unrestricted ARs and high cap mags.
My generation gets to have no fun at all.

hopefully that will change with the long-gun registry being scrapped. maybe, just maybe, they will make ar's non-restricted? lol flame me boys

i had a really sweet RRA AR15, moded to the titties! sold it :( I thought it wouldn't be that bad at the range, but it's really no fun for me to shoot a rifle in such a small space. you need to be outdoors to really enjoy it. i think my next purchase will be a Swiss Arms 223. a little on the expensive side @ $3200+tax. but it's non-restricted... for now.

yeah I agree, there alot of cool non restricted rifles out there right now and I was tempted by them. But my first black had to be the AR, afterall its the grand daddy of all these other modern black rifles.

Unless you join the army. It's a hoot!..... :dancingbanana:

Glad to hear you got an AR variant. One of the best rifle designs in my honest opinion. The higher your skill with it, the better it's potential. I own a SDI XR15CQBR subcarbine. Never planned to, but through some decent research I decided to acquire this somewhat pricey AR for the overall long term benefit.

Just like you, I had always wanted one since I was a kid. I used love all the Vietnam shows/movies/games/literature and had always wanted to be a GI with an M16. Though I've grown older and less naive, I still remember my desire to own an M16 "commi-ass-kicking-machine". Granted my Sabre XR isn't the same as the M16E1/A1s (rather more like the XM177E2/CAR-15) fielded during the Vietnam war, it is still the same firearm design. However, someday as a pet project I'm gonna build a civi-replica of an XM16E1. Or I'll buy a Colt SP1. Whichever I decide based on interest and availability.

Good for you kid! I am 45 - and I just got my first AR this year too! I should have bought it when I was your age.

Like you, I bought the Bushmaster except mine has a longer barrel with no flash suppressor. I have finally completed my gun collection, with the last rifle I bought being the first I should have bought.

Shoot the daylights out of your AR and enjoy! You are off to an excellent start!

I have a passion for firearms. If I could afford to, I would buy as many firearms as I could and shoot them all until they were worn out. Luckily for the firearms I have I can't yet afford to feed them that often...

I had built up a pretty decent warchest prior to turning 18 and applying for the RPAL so when it came in the mail, I too was a bit out of control... had to have one of everything. :D
