I'm in my 3rd season hunting turkeys and finally connected. I can only hunt Saturdays, so on the first day, I had two come in but hang up too far out. Last Sat. I had one withing range but couldn't get the gun up in time. Today I had 4 or 5 hens and at least 3 males about 250 -300 yds out. They showed up shortly after first light and wandered around but didn't pay attention to my calls or dekes. They were just starting to make their way in my direction (very slowly) when I heard a gobble behing me a bit. After a bit of time and a few more gobbles he quieted down. I suspected he might sneak in so I had my ears open. All of sudden I heard some comotion behind my blind, and then some more. I then started hearing the thumping sound they make when they strut, and it was CLOSE! Got the shotgun up to the side window and waited. As he walked by all strutted up (as soon as I saw beard), BOOM! . Yeah, that's what the turkey load sounded like. Shot him right throuhg the head at about 5 or 6 feet!!
He weighed 21.5lbs, 9.25" beard and 7/8" spurs.

Congratulations! This year was my first year of turkey hunting and I was luck enough to get 2. That feeling of getting the first one is just awesome. There is no other word than that. My second one had a head similar to yours. I'm grinnin ear to ear for ya! :D

Congratulations! You won't be forgetting that hunt anytime soon.

Nice shot, too. A head shot at that range is a much tougher shot than one at 30 yards. Nicely done.

Well, bird #2 came in this morning, barely a beard visible. Plugged him at roughly 10 or 11 yards, so he looks like another suicide vicim. He took the bulk of the shot right in the head, but a few pellets did wander south and hit him in the neck. He's a nice little jake, about 16lbs, ~3" beard, and nubs for spurs,(maybe 3/8"). Feels pretty good going from two skunked seasons to tagging out.
My wife came with me on Saturday but we didn't see much and barely heard anything, so she didn't wanna come today. I got to gloat and tell her about seeing 4 or 5 turkeys and 4 deer. She was bummed, but that's her problem for wanting to sleep in. Anyway, here's the pics...

Here he is coming in just before I shot him...

I'm very happy for you and great patterning. I wish all my ducks would look like that. There would be no cripple chasing if every bird was dispatched so effectively. Well done!
