I'm in my 3rd season hunting turkeys and finally connected. I can only hunt Saturdays, so on the first day, I had two come in but hang up too far out. Last Sat. I had one withing range but couldn't get the gun up in time. Today I had 4 or 5 hens and at least 3 males about 250 -300 yds out. They showed up shortly after first light and wandered around but didn't pay attention to my calls or dekes. They were just starting to make their way in my direction (very slowly) when I heard a gobble behing me a bit. After a bit of time and a few more gobbles he quieted down. I suspected he might sneak in so I had my ears open. All of sudden I heard some comotion behind my blind, and then some more. I then started hearing the thumping sound they make when they strut, and it was CLOSE! Got the shotgun up to the side window and waited. As he walked by all strutted up (as soon as I saw beard), BOOM! . Yeah, that's what the turkey load sounded like. Shot him right throuhg the head at about 5 or 6 feet!!
He weighed 21.5lbs, 9.25" beard and 7/8" spurs.
