Picked up a Remington SPS Varmint chambered in .308 with the 26" heavy wall barrel, I've been kinda researching this purchase for a long time and I'm new to long range shooting. I've never shot a .308 and I've never shot beyond 200meters. I went with the rem 700 because of the stock upgrade options and also price and out of the box accuracy. I'm hoping to build this into a beginners match rifle. Any ideas on what stock to go with? AICS is out of my price range but I'm looking for something modular/badass looking that comes with detachable magazine...but not if it sacrifices accuracy. Cheers.

Like UM said we need to know how much are you willing to spend on a stock / chassis but off the top of my head the best bang for the buck if you are looking for new stuff will be Chaote from Jerry (Mystic precision) otherwise an used HS can be found in EE between 275 to 350.

For bottom metal I remember there was a thread not long ago and someone ordered from Aussie and by far that is the cheapest that I aware off otherwise several forum sponsors carry the most common brand names and Alberta Tactical has their own brand and looks promising.

I myself like the XLR but saw this one in another forum and seems like a steal not sure if they ship here or not:

Choate tactical -325$ why didn't you just buy a 700 with a good stock to start ? Now it needs a 1000$ scope and 325-1200$ stock I'm in the same boat but was forced here due to being left hand ... I have the same rifle you will love it !

Congrats on the new Remy! 308 is fun to shoot. :)

If you had to choose between Bell&Carlson and Choate, which would be the preferred stock to get and would you need to bed the action?

I love the XLR chassis from http://www.xlrindustries.com/

Great product and great service and they ship direct to Canada - home of the brave and over taxed. I have one and my buddy just picked one up too. Check out Sightron if you're looking for great glass under $1000... Not much under... awesome scopes.

mainly because I wanted a project like this, I enjoy piecing a rifle like this together because you get better knowledge and familiarity with the rifle this way instead of buying a rifle that has all the work done for you, to me theres no fun in that whatsoever. Also the XLR is nice and not a bad price, thanks for all the replies guys!

Just because you are left handed doenst mean you cant shoot right handed guns. I to am a lefty and dont own a left handed gun. I learnt to shoot the right way(pun intended)

My next bolt gun will be a righty unless I go custom action!
for the usual slow fire having the bolt on the wrong side is not that bad but I would never consider shooting right handed technique
For a lot of guns shooting lefty can be an advantage with the way the gun functions and operates
