Finally got my honey to the range today!

It took some serious effort on my part.At first she wouldn't even touch the gun, unloaded and proven clear,in fact she didn't even lay a hand to it until yesterday. She comes from a family of hunters and that's where their firearms understanding ends, although her father thought my AR was a "nice gun" he had no interest in firing it.I don't think the anxiety will last forever, and I think that if you explain that there are other women who also enjoy our sport then she will bend a bit.Yesterday she was able to meet a couple of the wives and after talking to them she began to realize that it's ok to like firearms. There were no horror stories,no catastrophic end to the day and all went well :)

I'm lucky! It was her idea to go shoot that day. I told her earlier that I'll take her one day but I guess I was taking too long so she made a decision that day that it was time to go. hehe.

...an example of that is a "dad" who was shooting steel targets on a 20 yard range which is prohibited at our range for obvious reasons.

Where are you getting that rule from? It's specified to wear safety glasses when shooting steel at 20 yards or closer but that's it.

Until recently there were permanent steel swingers at 20 yards on the very range in your videos.

The other covered pistol range at this club doesn't allow steel but not because of the distance, it's because of the orientation of the range.

Unless maybe the guy you're talking about was using a rifle or something?

Looks like you had a great day with your wife.

Yes,the range we were on yesterday had the swinging targets, they're still on that range but not in use.The covered range you mentioned has the rule of no steel targets because of the ricochet hazard, and that comes from Peter himself.(unless I misunderstood)
I mentioned the hazard to the guy in question that day and it was a non issue,he was made to understand the possible risk and that was where it ended. It's up to all of us to watch out for each other,if we see a member doing something dangerous or doing something they don't realize is wrong,it's up to the rest of us to educate them and make them aware.
Yes,I had a good day with the wife, she really enjoyed herself too.If I had more ammo and the weather was warmer, she would have stayed longer :)

This is my first post. Glad to be a part of CGN...

Anyways, I will be doing my interview tomorrow for my RPAL. Can't wait cause I have some pistols in mind... M&P 40 and 9mm. I have had previous experience with revolvers almost 20 years ago. I'm excited to get back into the swing of things.

I have convinced my wife to come and try a pistol when everything is complete..For a person who has never held a gun...she is surely excited. I keep on reading other post to her pertaining to women who are getting into the sport of shooting.

Maybe she will next to get her RPAL

Hopefully she wont be laying claims to my guns. Lol

BTW... I think its great if your wife or girlfriend wants to be part of this great world of shooting. :D
