FINALLY! I got my SL-8/5!

Wow... thanks for all the reply's guys! And I still have to take some pics! Ill do that tonight.... BTW, mine came with the HK bipod, the seller stated thats a 200.00+ touch! I cant believe they'd charge so much for it, as its non adjustable, plastic. I'll prolly dump it and go with my normal adjustable bipod(s). I was thinking of getting an AR Magwell adapter, but ordered 3 G36 mags from IRunGuns dude. they came in just under a hundred bucks for 3, I dont care if I have to mod the magwell to fit them.....its no big deal.

i found the scope I want for it, I just have to budget for it now, too many projects going on at the same time (my M203 restock/scoping). Its a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44, i'd like to keep it all German, ;-)

Im off to pop a few rounds out of it in a bit, as its only -4 right now, and there's no wind. Damn this thing is sweet! Some of my non gun type buddy's checked it out, and soimply don't understand what they were looking at, they thought it was a toy! Oh, and I brought it to Cabela's in Winnipeg to find a case for it, and wanted to make sure it would fit properly, and they guys working there DROOLED all over it! LOL.... Think I could find a bag there though, NAW, I ended up picking one up in Owatona Cabela's, MN on a business trip on Thursday.... Damn they had some nice stuff there... a real SCAR, and a cool Beretta .22LR. Awesome stuff!

Congratulations! I know the feeling, I just got an XCR a few days ago.

We do need pictures. I believe it is mandatory to post pictures of your new purchases... if it isn't mandatory, it should be :)

Here we go.... Nothing special, as I havn't scoped it yet, but she sure is SWEET! Ill post more pics as it gets built up! I had two cheap rails that fit the sides, that I put on it, I'll get some real rails in the future. I WILL be getting a Zeiss scope as well.... ;-) Coyote's will fall this winter! Now i'm starting to consider getting rid of my Mini 14, although, I prolly won't, as I tend to hang on to my guns. I really need to get another safe, or sell the one I have and invest on one of those I seen at Cabela's that will hold 18+!

It looks like I'll have the three 30 rnd MagPul G36 PMags I ordered from IRunGuns on Friday! DAMN, now that I bought a black Tactical bag for the rifle, and It came with five mag pouches, I should have ordered two more! LOL....

And this weekend, Im picking up the Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 scope. Then the SL8 is complete. This WILL be my new goto Coyote terminator. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to try a few loads I made up, all based on 26 gn H335, and amazingly enough, I shot a 5 shot group that was just UNDER .5"! Ill say this, my Mini 14 couldn't have EVER done that! (EX Mini 14, as i sold it this morning to finance the Zeiss scope.... ;-()

Well, Yesterday i got my three 30/5 rnd G36 PMags from IRunGuns, and did the little receiver mod so they fit in perfect. I did a very clean job with my Dremel ;-) And today I finish getting this thing battle ready for coyote's as me and my Son are headed to the "Big Smoke" to pick up the Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44! (Rapid Z 800).

Probelm is im meeting the guy at Cabela's, and that always amounts to the bank account being a grand lighter! ARRRGgggg...

fixed it for you, I had to do a double take the first time I read it.

That at 100yds?
Which bullets were those? 69gr SMK?
Good choice getting rid of the mini-14, I've hated those since I sold mine. There is nothing it could have done better than the HK.

My HK will shoot 50gr ballistic silvertips into about 1.25 inch at 100yds with my 2-7 scope (probably better now that I have a 4-12 on it).

You can't overstabilize a bullet as long as you don't spin it faster than it's rated for and have it come apart in the air.
It's more about finding a load that the bullet leaves your barrel at the same point in the barrel harmonic every round than it is about twist rate. It actually isn't even bullet weight but is more about bullet length that determines optimal twist rate for a particular bullet. It just so happens that 99% of the time a heavier bullet is also longer and a tighter twist is needed to properly stabilize a longer heavier bullet.

My personal favorite combination is a 1:8 twist with a Wylde chamber. Tight enough to stabilize the heavier bullets if you want to shoot them far, and since most of us aren't going to shoot 77gr all the time due to the cost I don't really think a 1:7 is needed for most people especially on a semi auto.
 
Agreed, my SL8 shoots marginally better with 55gr VMAXs than the 69gr SMK's. Both shoot sub 1" at 100 yrds on most 5 shot groups.

Zeiss conquests are us made. Good quality glass though, my savage has one with the ballistic reticle.

Every barrel is different, my old SL8-4 loved Black hills 75gr match and my new one doesn't seem to like them at all.
 
Just curious about your reloads I too have a sl-8 it's a laser beam with Hornady 75grs boattail hollow points !!!!please pm me with some info if you don't mind about your choice of bullet and powder and results...I'm curious cause I'd like to reload for mine but not sure where to start.... Davide
