Finally - my BM59 clone (nicer than an M14?)

4 years of slowly gathering parts - I think it started with Mike Baker giving me the gas cylinder! Stock and flash hider/grenade launcher are from Reese, some other parts from Italy, SA pitted and rusted receiver...just cut away all parts that prevent a mag from going in.

Nice project Dave GP, I have one of those tri-comp muzzle brake/flash hiders on my 308 Tanker copy.
Turns 308/30-06 into a pussy cat in these rifles.....got it from Reese as well.

All I can say is WOW and I hope to make something along those lines someday! I am glad you posted pics of it all together ,I know you must be proud ? Something that you built with your own 2 hands .

M1 receiver made by Beretta or Breda (and any other maker) with a BM59 parts kit fitted = non-restricted.
Difference? NADDA. ZILCH. NOTHING.
In fact, some original BM59's were converted from M1 receivers!
My only question is, if you do a good job making one, how do you prove it was not imported as a BM59 (and thusly prohib)?

Well Leg ,they are around ,but expect to pay $300 -$600 U.S. for one !
They also made folding stocks for the M14 clones as well . I have both the BM59 version and the M14 version . While they do look cool and are functional,they are not very practical . I think I have 4 or 5 of the BM59 type folders. The original Beretta are the best ,they are also the most expensive . Andy in Italy had a few for $500 0r $600 NIW. Brand new but a little to rich for me ,I am just a working guy .....

I think Dave has that covered ,his is a modified Garand that uses M14 mags .
It is not a BM59. Very similar yes ,and you are most correct about the Original BM59's were modified garands . BM59's use BM59 mags and while this may seem like a minor detail,I think it might be enough . I plan to use BM59 mags in my conversion,I have no laws prohibiting me from doing such . Then agian I do not know alot about Canadian laws ,so I could be completely wrong here .

The BM59 did use a Garand receiver - suitably modified with no clip guides and a hole forward of the locking lugs for the selector. The original BM59 is a selective fire rifle, so it naturally would be a 12-whatever prohib. Why would anyone think this rifle I built would be anything other than a Garand modified to take a removable box magazine?? Registered as a Garand - of course, that's really what it is. I could have used BM59 mags instead, but they are a bit hard to find - and that still wouldn't change the class of the rifle.
