SAI receiver in a Boyd's stock. Marine Tex bedding compound was used.

I bedded it on Sunday but I ran out of bedding compound and had huge air pockets! I roughed up the surfaces and filled in the voids and laid a fresh top layer of bedding compound. Now I just need to clean up the excess. You can literally see every machining mark from the receiver.

Not too shabby at all ;)
Geesh, it must be going on 20 years almost since I bedded my first M14.... Crap that was 93 so .... 20+ LOL
I still really enjoy bedding M14 actions, so much more to it than yer average bolt gun bedding job.
Marine tex.... Solid choice

What did you use for release compound? I always order and use the Brownells bedding kit and it works great but have lots of industrial epoxy that I could use but would need a separate release compound. I am always scared shatless when I bed a gun that I will get a sticker but like I said the Brownells has done the job with out any stickage.--Dieseldog!

I got some more cleaned up today. The chip in the bedding under the SAI stamp didn't surprise me. I didn't route that area and I didn't apply bedding to that area. That was overflow from the forward and back section of the bedding job. Since this was the first time this stock was bedded, I left a small un-routed portion of the stock that the receiver could bottom out on and I wouldn't have to worry about setting the receiver below the surface plane of the stock.

Now I just need to re-bed the trigger group and it's done!

Gotta love those machined and engraved factory markings! :) I like your clean masking tape lines on the top of the stock! Great indicator of patient preparation work. A true masterpiece!

Now about that release agent.... I've used Carnauba wax, clear / Neutral shoe polish, PAM spray, Silicon mold release agent, and Brownells release agent. All of them had positive and successful results. Have at 'er!

Awesome photography, too!

Thanks for the comments! I got the action all cleaned up, cut the connector pin flush with the side of the receiver and lubed the action. It dropped in nicely and has some killer draw pressure! The trigger group is re-bedding this morning. I backed off the gas cylinder to illustrate how the action sits and angles the barrel up and to allow the trigger group to bed without resistance from the stock forearm. Latching it closed will take a little oomph!

The 30. Cal service rifle handbook by kunhausen shows exactly how to make those bedding aids... No coat hangers required ;)

Although, I guess that would take away from the revenue guys get from their Youtube channels LOL

I make a whopping $100 every 3 to 4 months from youtube ads. Donations are voluntary and viewing is always free. I'm no Hickock45 or FPS Russia yet! Not even close! ;)
