Finally pulled the trigger on a new progressive

I was leaning toward the Dillon 650, I think now however the LNL looks pretty good due to reasons above, how is Sinclair about shipping to Canada? Any hidden costs? Any reviews from someone who actually has one? How is Hornady about customer service to Canada?

Navy Gunner

I had minor issues with my LNL AP, got immediate shipping to Canada with a part that was missing, and there was little wait on the phone. Staff is friendly, very knowledgable and helpful, one of the best companies I've ever dealt with. I'm working backwards, started with a progressive press (for handgun) and will be getting single stage for rifle (the AP does rifle too but I want to be more precise). I'll be getting Hornady for sure.

I had one briefly. The ram on it was very loose and full of slop. I discovered this right after unpacking it and sent it to them for warranty service right away. I got it back two weeks later. They did nothing to it. They didn't fix it or replace the press. They didn't even include any type of note to say what was looked at or why they didn't think it was a problem. I compared the runout I was getting on it to my Dillon 550 and it was horrible. That was the end of my LNL AP ownership and the last time I buy anything but components from Hornady. And that was on *this* side of the border...

Conversely, my LNL is completely tight, to the point where I have to use a bit of force to get the grease in the fittings. I know you're unhappy - and they should have fixed it - but geez, don't you have some reloading to do? :)

The dude asked how their service was, I'm just sharing my experience...

I've noticed a drop in quality and service from many of the manufacturer's lately. Doesn't seem to matter if it's defective presses or tainted peanuts, management sees dollar signs in the poor economy and keeps sending this stuff out the door. If people don't call them on it, they'll just keep doing the same... it'll only get worse.

That you're sharing your experience is certainly appreciated kombayotch.

You're right about quality slipping with some of the brand names. IMHO they are still getting quality recognition when they no longer deserve it. Laudable though after market service may be, it doesn't really cut the cake when you've got to call customer service the day a product arrives because the $hit just ain't working :kickInTheNuts:. This is more like salvage than service.

My LnL AP is ready to go, so far I've been amazed at how easy it was to set up. Much less finicky than my 550. I'll report back after my first real run.

Did you get the new EZ-JECT version? Wondering since I got the older one last year and recently ordered the conversion kit to make it EZ-JECT and am impatiently waiting for it :D

Mine is EZject, it seems to work perfectly so far. Even spits them out a bit hard maybe.

I'm seriously considering the case feeder now... the positioning of case and bullet placement may be a challenge to learn to do quickly. With a case feeder I think I could really rock on this thing.

I just got my ap ez-ject press today, now trying to sort out where to have a bench since we have 5 kids and all the rooms in the house are full. i have 2 choices, the mechanical/furnace room or the attached unheated garage. I worry about the garage because of the humidity and cold in winter and that it is not really secure as it is used alot. I could lock up the utility room but worry a tad about being about 12 feet from the furnace and water heater. Any thoughts on which would be better?

I'd set up in the heated room just for comfort, smokeless powder isn't an explosive and won't be a problem if you use some common sense.

Could you elaborate I'm curious as I've never found my 550 "finicky"
I've been using one for the last 10 years loading pistol rounds for both my wife and I to shoot IPSC
I also have 4 extra powder measure assemblies for easy caliber changes
I did have to replace the primer tube assembly when I stripped the treads on the base(my fault)

Everything is just so easy to set up. Powder measure is much better, easier to adjust and smoother. Caliber conversions are incredibly easy. Small to large primer feed takes 2 min tops. Half step indexing is very smooth.

I would not say it makes better ammo than a Dillon, or is faster, or better made. But it's cheaper (much cheaper when you get into multiple calibers) and more user friendly.

Definitely, it's not a "OMG this is so much better you have to switch." It's more of a "Hey, if you're starting from scratch I'd give this press a really hard look."

acrashb, some time ago, did the definitive comparison study between the Dillon, Lee and Hornady AP presses. It convinced me to try the Hornady setup not, as you correctly point out, because the Hornady is gods gift to reloading but because the Dillon isn't, and because the Hornady is 100's cheaper than the comparable Dillon. The warranties for both are identical house fires notwithstanding. The Hornady value advantage will narrow significantly once they stop giving away bullets the end of this year. We're not the only ones going the Hornady route. They're back ordered up the ying yang.

acrashb's review really helped seal my decision for the Hornady as well. I don't think anyone would be diappointed with how much press you get for the money.

If you want to load 5-6-7 calibers on the same press, and change calibers often I really think the Hornady takes the lead on the Dillon 650, even not considering price, or the free bullets.

Where is the best place to get a LNL AP in Canada? Or does Hornady take orders directly from Canadian customers? I have reloaded on a Dillon 650 but the cost of everything for it and calibre conversions has really delayed my decision to actually get one for myself.

Almost everything Hornady is backordered all over the place, and Hornady isn't selling any directly due to all the backorders. I got mine from Sinclair's but they're out of stock again I think.
