so i finally took out my mosin today and i love it, i started off shooting it at the 100 meter and can hit consistent within 8inches, its not the gun that shoots that wild its just me(my first big rifle).my first 5 rounds sucked, my next 10 rounds stayed within 4 inches and after that the spread got bigger. i put up a target at 200m and couldnt even hit the thing(need practice). after about 80 rounds my shoulder had enough, those metal butt sure make their presence known after about 50 rounds. maybe i will get a bent bolt handle and mount combo you see floating around sometimes.

Nice rifle and so much easier to clean, than a semi, after shooting corossive.

I should think that after 80 rds. your shoulder had enough.

Fifty is enough for me.:)

My shoulder tips its hat to you two. By 20 to 25 with only a T shirt with a sweat shirt over top my shoulder stopped listening to me and told my arm to tell my hand to pack the thing up and take the whole crew home.... :D

It was huge fun for that 25 rounds at a time though. I've got to get a crate of ammo ordered up from Westrifle.

In my modest opinion, mosins are the modern enfield, accurate and cheap (not as high quality as enfields, but also 1/3 to 1/4 the price these days).

Keep an eye out for the already made repro snipers on the EE - their prices have come down enough that it's sometimes cheaper to buy them finished than assemble all the parts and do them yourself (definitely cheaper than paying a gunsmith).

I'm sure you've seen this pic before in another thread but I'll throw it up one more time. This Limbsaver pad enables me to shoot all day with no worries. I started out the same with my first 91/30.

bc tactical.ca has bent bolts and mount with taps/instructions for 78 dollars so i think might give them a try and that limbsaver you speak of seems like a must with rifle with the metal buttplate and all

I don't shoot my Mosin without my slip on pad. The mosin is a great rifle but somebody screwed up when the designed the butt end .

i did some research on google last night to figure out why i couldnt hit worth a dang at the 200m mark, i suspect my bullet was going over the target because apparently at that distance it lands high, i swear i had my sights right on the target the same way i did when i was shooting at 100m. i even adjusted the rear sight elevation, i guess i will find out when i go back to range.

You're going to have to check that the sights are set properly. A lot of Mosins shoot high, and some change their POI if you take the bayonet off.

I know this may sound weird, but shooting the 180 and 200 grain bullets put me dead center while the 147's and 150's shoot really high.
