Finally tested out my Troy M14

What's HGR? Is that another version of your stock?
Maybe one day I'll get to try out the blackfeather and see how it feels. :)

Cool! Can't wait to see what you guys come up with. :)

I put my rifle on a scale today and with an empty mag it weighed in at 12 1/2 lbs. With a single point sling it's not too bad to lug around. Plus I don't mind the weight because it helps me keep the rifle steady.

I've received a few PMs for more details about how I addressed the lock pin issue so I snapped a couple pics to show what I did. Before you guys laugh at my mickey mouse approach please keep in mind this was a temporary fix so I could go test the rifle. I'll be making a more proper fix for it soon.

On the right side of the lower chassis I filled in the cavity just in front of the mag well with sound dampening material. I've also heard of people gluing bits of a popsicle stick in place with success. ;)

The norc lock pin is shorter than the usgi version so there's a chance it will slide out of place while firing. This "dam" simply keeps the pin in place.

Ah, I see Dynamat. A little fiberglass and resin would work well. On a laminate stock I have, I glued a small piece of wood in place. Worked well.

A word to the wise: The dynamat goo is very difficult to clean up.
 
If I wrap the entire rifle in dynamat it might make it quieter. hahaha :)
When I bed the action on one of my rifles I'll fill this spot with a little devcon.

Actually, that's not so crazy. The product was developed to cancel resonation, by lowering it to a frequency very little energy is produced at, and thus eliminate sympathetic transfer. Theorectically, it should be able to lower the resonant frequency of a stock dramatically. Mind you, I suspect the frequency of the reciever and barrel is quite low, when I picture the barrel wave produced on firing, visible in slow motion film.

It wouldn't make it quieter, it would make it louder, but potentially more accurate.
 
hrmmm.... now you've got me curious. I suppose there's only one way to test your theory! :) As for the noise level I could just stuff a couple pieces into my ear as hearing protection. lol

Shameless plug for the M14.ca Blackfeather in a thread about the Troy Chiassis? Haha, just kidding.

It'd be nice to have both of them to do a side-by-side comparison for performance.
