I've been hunting deer on my Fiancee's family land for the past 6 years now. She partly owns a dairy farm and a patato plantation with her parents and 2 brothers. Our hunting grounds are 900 yards behind my house wich was built on the farm in '07. I live on the north shore of Montreal, about 45 minutes away from the city. We and the neighbors grow cabbage and potatoes but for deer what is very interesting is that we also grow carrots, soya, alphalpha and corn.... Thare are fields, hardwood and swamps..... We hunt a 240 acres area...
First 2 years were very succesfull but the last 3 deer seasons were pretty s**tty. Harsh winters in 2007 and 2008 and too many 'yotes ! In the last 2 years, 6 Cototes were put down and the last 2 winters were less difficult for them.
This year, black powder season is very promising. We see more rubs now than we ever saw in the 5 years prior to that put together. At my spot, there are 4 rubs within 50 yards... some are HUGE ! ! ! ! Last sunday, without looking we encountered 9 rubs and about 5-6 scrapes while repositionning treestands (we had setup for bow but didn't get the chance to go as I now have a 2 month old daughter)........ tracks are all over the place !
I've also notices that coyote are less present this year than in the past 3. Shows to me that things a cyclick.
Farm life is A1++++.. on top of that, I'm on a 7-1/2 month parental leave.....5 more months to go ! ! !
Here are a few samples of the ''signs'' I am talking about.......
I cant wait till tomorow morning ! ! ! !
CHEERS !
P.S. Trailcams are up....... More pics to come
