I would not have thought if would have taken me this long, but I finally got under 1\2 MOA with my 223. Pushing a 75gr BTHP Moly Hornady out with 23.5g of Varget. One 5 shot group of .443 with an average velocity of 2684, and a 7 shot group with an average velocity of 2707. Very please with myself.

I though I would just get rid of some powder I had so I loaded this bullet up with IMR 4895, and also found some promising results at 21.2g at just over 2300 fps. This will warrant some further follow up and testing. The faster the velocity here though, the worse the group seemed to get. Very interesting. I guess the little things in life do make you happy.

Now to break that .4 barrier.

You might find the groups really start to settle in with more velocity if you can do it without too much pressure. My load for 75 gr bullets with Varget is 26 gr. out of a Kreiger barrel.
 
what velocity are you getting with 26g. I am getting about 2850 with 25g with no pressure signs, so I know I can go a little hotter

But alas, I will probably have to wait until next year for any more trials as my weather is getting too cold for testing.
 
I rarely shoot my loads over a chrony. Velocity means nothing to me, accuracy is what I am after. The load works out to 1000 yards so that's all I care about.

You are in Nova Scotia, it doesn't get cold there! We've already had -15 and there is presently 15cm of snow on the ground. I thought varget was temperature independent? BTW congrats on the groups and I'm just razzing you on the cold thing being a displaced Nova Scotian myself.
 
You might want to try small rifle magnum primers w/ you varget load. You should drop your charge and work back up, but it made a big difference for me w/ varget and 75 amax. I got the advice from mysticplayer- the dude knows how to make a .223 shoot.
 
Using varget doesn't mean no sensitivity, it means LESS, thats all, it will still make a noticable difference in a country with 100 degree swing in temp.
