Finally, Winchester rimfire ammo that is not crap?

I have Green Mountain bull barrels on a couple of my 10/22s which I love to bits; they were the only company I could find that offered a sight option for a .920 diameter (Williams Fire Sights). Accuracy and consistency are very good, yet with their Bentz chambers I get frequent ejection issues (not feeding or firing problems, just FTEs), and these rifles already had the requisite upgraded extractors.

The only ammunition that worked (almost) flawlessly was the very scarce CCI Minimag, up until now ...

The Winchester M22: 40 grain black copper plated round nose solids, listed @ 1,255 FPS

I was of course skeptical, having had poor results with any Winchester ammo not stamped 'AA' in the past, but am glad I did not let previous bias keep me from trying this stuff out. If you have an upgraded barrel that is ammo-sensitive *cough*dlask*cough*, don't let your Winchester hate make you pass on the M22.

I totally agree I was skeptical as well but I tried them in my issc mk 22 and fed beautifully and went bang every time. I'm sold now just to find some more!

I finally found some M-22 ammo. Bought 2000 rounds.
Out of my 10/22 with Dlask barrel I was getting over 1" groups at 25 meters . Blazer, Dynapoint, American Eagle, and some really old Imperial ammo give 1-hole groups from the same rifle. I'll have to try the M-22 out of my other .22's to see if any of them like it.

Lucky you my custom Dlask rifles don't like the M22

I was unlucky as i bought 1000 rounds a few months ago and it was poison, all cci and federal ammo worked flawlessly and accurate, m22 has many underpowered rounds, missfires, fail to eject and feed problems, but I may of had a bad batch, so keep that in mind.

It seems to be a sign of the times had bought Fed AM22 target in the past couple of years and was flawless for a long time now it seems they are rushing them thru production and not catching the duds.

I haven't tried M22 because I have not found any yet but I can get Winchester Dynapoint Target ammo and I was pleasantly surprised. It's 40gr copper plated hollow point @ 1155 but it's actually sub-sonic and the trajectory @50y is the same as CCI SV. The Dynapoints were just as accurate as MiniMags and I was getting 5/8"-3/4" groups at @50y in my stock 597 with 20" barrel. I'm glad I got 2 boxes :)

Before you use your m22 ammo, check on the winchester website. There was a recall on a certain batch as there were suspected double charges. If you do have any of defective #s they give you a pretty good rebate to go good for things. Just an FYI

I tried the M-22 ammo in 4 more rifles today.

Ruger SR-22 with Vortex Strikefire red-dot - 1" groups at 25 m *10-shot groups*
Henry lever-action with cheap Fitco 2-7x32 scope - 1/2" - 3/4" groups *5-shot groups*
Savage BV target rifle with Bushnell 4-12x40 - consistantly gave 1-hole groups with a single flyer. *5-shot groups*
Ruger 10/22 with Tac-Sol barrel and Bushnell 4-12x40 scope - ragged hole with a couple of flyers in each group * 10-shot groups*

all in all, not bad ammo. Good enough for plinking, spinner targets, and should be "minute-of-grouse"

That was a long time back, months and months

I'm sure, least I hope retailers pulled them when the recall happened back in March 2014, but just in case people buy from someone in a private transaction. The seller may have stocked up before the recall and not know about it:

Symbol Number: S22LRT
Lot Numbers: GD42L and GD52L
