Well, after months and months of wading through the thick muck of our firearms laws I finally picked up my first pistol on tuesday night. I am now the proud owner of a S&W M&P 9. Now I just need to join a range so I can shoot the damn thing. (I would post a pic but we've all seen what they look like).

Nice, I hear ya about the waiting....one strong reason why Canada will never need a 'cooling off' period.

I just bought my first hand gun as well, after close to 100 days of waiting for the paperwork to clear.. they just cleared the transfer and sent off my long term ATT in the mail today, I had to join a range before they would clear it here in Manitoba, now I am just waiting for it to arrive in the mail along with the pistol. Interestingly enough.. its an M&P 9 like yours..

I really like the way the M&P feels in my hand (I had to install the largest back strap though). I can't wait to try it out, I bought it brand new there hasn't been a round through it yet (except for maybe test fires at the factory). I have the itch now though and I think I'll be putting a deposit on a USP 40 very soon, either that or a SIG P226 in 40.

Well, your patience will be tried once again my friend....you still have to join a club, do a safety course and apply for the ATT....its potentially another couple months before you shoot.

The adjustable backstraps were a big reason that I went with the M&P, I planned on buying on the Exchange the first time around, so this was a way around the problem of not being able to handle the gun to see how it fit in my hands. I am drawn to a .40 cal as well, but I've already decided that I will buy a 9mm, a .40 and a .45 ACP 1911.. definately one of them will be a Sig.. I like the look of the sigpro 2022 with the SA/DA trigger for a .40, but I'll want to handle one before I decide...

The M&P is a great gun, if the trigger feels rough at first, that's normal - put 1,000 rounds through it and it'll feel perfect.
