Hello! :)
One of my friends sent me a fax with rough pics of a Vetterli and 43 Mauser rifles.
He says they are the property of a young woman who inherited them from his grandfather.
Since she hates firearms she wants them out and has asked my friend if he could rid her of the "things". He told her he would buy them from her but needs them appraised to make her an honest offer because he knows she isn't exactly rolling on 100$ bills...
The Mauser 43 is complete with all its original wood and fittings, even the stacking hook and bayonet lug. The only thing missing is the elevation board on the rear sight.
The Vetterli looks like it has abbreviated wood unless it is a carbine, I don't know enough to be sure.
I asked him to get me the firearms so I can evaluate their condition, take pics of them and publish them here.
Are these still considered registerable?
Given a good condition, what could a complete un-bubbaed 43 Mauser bring (very approximate)?
PP.

If the Mauser is a modl.71, it is a single shot and does not need to be registered, if it's a 71/84 it's a repeater(tubular mag.) and needs to be registered. Complete, original, guns are key here, the repeater could go for $800 or more plus the bayonet value, which I'm not up on. The 71s tend to go for less money, but both make very good shooters and hunting guns as the .43 Mauser is a very effective game getter.

I'd say mid-range values would be:

M71/84 - $400 - is a repeater, so needs to be registered
M71 - $500 - is a single shot, so is an antique. You mentionned a stacking hook, so it isn't one of these.
Swiss Vetterli - $250 - is a rimfire so is an antique.

I bet the Vetterli is bubba'd, so it would be $150 ish.

A full military M71/84 Mauser in VG+ condition should be in the range of $300 - $500. Saying that I sold mine for $700, but it was in VG++ conditon and came with accessories.

A full military Swiss Vetterli in VG shape $300 to $400 avg value. You can find cheaper but they sell fast.

Sporters or bubba's will be less.
