Finding a quiet air rifle on a budget

I just use a crosman Phantom .22 500 fps. It kills red squirrels pretty good. I probably wouldn't shoot one of those big buggers you guys have down south with it, but I haven't lost a red squirrel yet. I find it quite quiet, certainly no where near the loudness of a .22.

I was thinking about an airgun for starling. The population has gotten out of control and makes for an annoying day/evening by the pool. Would I be ok with a Canadian tire airgun, something simple and quiet. Ive got neighbours all around, I've also got an old Bushnell 3x9 if i can mount it too. Thanks

That scope won't last long on a springer unless it's made for an air rifle.

Basspro has the Gamo Varmint Air Rifle .177PBA @ 1,250 FPS for $99 starting tomorrow (Page 18)

As an alternative to Springers, Crosman has several Nitro-piston rifles in both .177 and .22 - I just bought a Vantage for $120 + tx. - the .177 is 'rated' at 1200fps (with 5gr alloy pellets) and 'really' sends 10gr Lead at about 800 - about 18 FPE muzzle. The .22 will retain more energy downrange than the .177 and the pellets for .22 cost ca. $20/250 around here in NB.
