Finding a rifle in 300 weatherby mag.... is wby/howa the only manufacturer?

Could a 300 win mag be rechambered to 300 Weatherby? Will the reamer clean up the chamber without setting back the barrel very far? It could be another option. Buy the rifle he wants in 300 win mag and rechamber it. That's something maybe one of our excellent Smith's can answer.

Could do that. But look at SAAMI chamber drawings first and see 300 WBY chamber neck is smaller diameter than 300 Win Mag chamber neck. Loaded round is .220" longer for Weatherby so likely need to adapt magazine length. Reaming out might work - the one 300 WBY that I have is reamed into a m1917 milsurp 30-06 chamber, but I believe, if I am still able to read drawings, that 300 WBY shoulder/neck junction clears out to mouth of 30-06 chamber, where as don't think it does for the 300 Win Mag chamber, so would have short step on fired case? So, turning barrel half a thread or whatever would let you do it.

turning down the barrel might get expensive. the stock must be opened up to fit the bull barrel. then a new stock might be required. more cost.

I received it this morning... It will be in the return mail tomorrow... 28 inches long - it weighed 3 pounds 15 ounces and now weighs 3 pound 7 ounces... that's 8 ounces lighter... you could easily get more with a cut and crown...

Nice work Dennis. If it was mine, I would also have cut 3" off of it...

Sorry for the late reply!

Yes, I sent this out a while ago, Dennis turned this thing down and it was in the mail the next day! My dad was against shortening the barrel as he wanted to keep the swiss cheese barrel end... not sure why he didnt get a threaded barrel to begin with an use a different brake.... oh well. The rifle balances very well and the weight loss is very, very noticeable.
My dad took it to the range and he was shooting MOA at 100, weather turned foul so he packed it in, he is VERY happy. Thanks Dennis for chiming in, and thanks everyone here for the wealth of really good suggestions!
