Okay, I searched and searched and it is hard to find any info on say a F-Class circut or the calendar for matches in Alberta, BC, Sask. I would like to start shooting in this discipline competitively. Are there any criteria to start? Where can I get involved? I tryed looking at the DCRA home page but it was kind of a run around. Maybe I was not looking hard enough.

I would be able to travel to shoot to say BC, SK, maybe evern Manitoba for these events, but I need to know where and when these events are. Just though I would ask, maybe you guys could help me out.

The rifle associations are small groups of keen individuals. The 2010 season is still in play, and the target rifle Nationals winding down right now at Connaught. There may be a few end-of-the-season matches (Frost on the Pumpkin at Homestead maybe?), but not much really planned from now on. Contact BC, AB, SK and MB in Sept and find out when their match schedules will be available. Then plan your roadtrips!

Here is the sched off the DCRA site Seven...
The PPRA (held at Nokomis SK) is an inter-provincial match and has a good attendance usually.

You also said where....
MB is at St Charles range on the west side of Wpg off Saskatchewan Ave, just west of the 101
SK is 6 miles east of the town of Nokomis SK (on the Nokomis grid)
AB is 30 minutes west of Calgary on #1 then south on HWY 68 (another 15 min or so) until you see the Homestead road sign and then south of 5 minutes on that.
BC has two ranges, Kamloops and Chilliwack.

Check out drca.ca for the rules and other info, and then the links for the individual Provincial Rifle Associations. The fullbore (TR & F-Class) schedules are posted on the individual PRA websites. For a 7mm, as long as the rifle and attachments are less than 22#, and there's no muzzle brake, shot off a front rest or bipod with a rear bag, and have a good idea of your bullet drop out to 900m ... you're pretty much good to go. You'll need to purchase an APRA membership for the second time out.

Recently completed were the BCRA Provincial Championship at the Vokes range near Chilliwack (300-600m, July 30 - Aug 2), the Saskatchewan Long Range Challenge at the Northstar range, east of Nokomis (300m - 1000yds, was scheduled for Aug 14 & 15, but I believe rained out) and the APRA GB Friendship match (300-900m, Aug 14 & 15).

Some upcoming matches are the Frosty Farky at Kamloops Sept 25 & 26, the APRA Homestead Palma match on Sept 11 & 12 (700-900m), the APRA Frost on the Pumpkin match on Oct 2 & 3 (300-900m) and the Prairie Provinces Championship match at Nokomis SK Sept 2 & 3 (300m-1000yds). The APRA will hold it's third clinic for new and interested shooters on Sept 18 (400 & 800m). Come on out - we'd like to see you there.

Seven,

One of my criticisms of many of the club and PRA websites is that they do not clearly show which matches are F-Class. I have been trying to change this, and I also have a page that simplifies this on my own website:

There are two upcoming matches in Alberta and 2 in BC coming up in September and October (see the Frosty Farky and Running of the V-Bulls Match).

The Kamloops BC matches are both perfect starter matches. they are at 300 and 500 and the V-Bulls match in particular is a great starter. It is F-Only, and we have specifically added a few things for the benefit of newcomers, including an orientation the day before the match (and the morning of the match). Virtually any rifle can be used at these distances, so a special long-distance rig is by no means a prerequisite. No membership required for Kamloops, and I am sure Alberta will let you shoot as well.

There are also two great matches in Alberta, The John Howard Palma match (700-800 and 900M) on 22-23 September, and the "Frost on the Pumpkin" match on 2-3 October. This match goes from 300 to 900M, and the guys at Homestead are all excellent.

As to criteria, None. A gun, ammo, and the typical assorted shooting paraphernailia. If you are missing anything, we can often arrange to share or loan items needed by newcomers.

If you would like to know more, feel free to drop me an email.

Nice

Thanks for the info guys. I knew if I asked this, where like minds wander, I would get what I needed. Obtunded thanks for the site, book marked that one. So if I have this right, some gas in my truck, lead for the gun, a membership, and a little time= A WHOLE LOT OF FUN!!!

Right now I am just getting my gun back from Ted Gaillard. Not to sure on the weight yet but it should be close. Thanks for that tip scout (22#). I will be looking forward to next year though. Kodiak thanks for that link as well!

Again thanks for the info. Everyone:D:D

I have to pass on the Palma, but will be their for the frozen zuccini match.

Seven, yup. As I said, a membership isn't even a prerequisite, but you'll likely want one to have access to the club and its facilities in the future.
