I got mine last year. A Frontier 6x6. The Avenger would have been my first choice but the budget didn't allow it. I added the front brushguard and winch (winch is a must in my opinion) and the rear hand rail.

Thanks for that. As much as I would like to get a normal ATV, it simply is not possible to transport the clan without a large pax trailer which creates problems itself.

I think the argo might be the ticket, since I don't plan to travel fast with the kids on board. I am going to have to do some additional research on the opton. The hard top is interesting particularly if you can store more stuff. Might work out to make a poor mans BV206! Put a nice trailer on the back and off you go...

The company that I work for bought a small fleet of Rangers to use for on site transportation.At first everyone wanted to try them out,but soon the novelty wore off,especially when they started breaking down on a regular basis.Now everyone rushes to get a truck and the slowest person gets stuck with a ranger.They do get a lot more use that most privately owned Rangers,but they have proven far too unreliable for me to ever buy one for my own use.
 
I had looked at the Rangers but I had heard the same thing in terms of performance and capablity. It can transport 6 but has not the best rough terrain performance and few options. I will have to have a closer look as it would certainly be more economical....
 
Jeep Cherokee (not grand cherokee) with a lift, 33" mud terrains, ox locker diffs, disconnecting sway bar, snorkle, roof racks, and a small trailer.

will hold lots of people, tonnes of gear, keeps the rain off your back and gets you any where you need to go.
I have a built up MJ that doubles as my ATV, I've practically burried it and crawled back out

Yes and after 22 years of light infantry work and a similar hunting style....I think it might be time to look at options. Also my 6 year old daughters endurance is not the best and limits my ranging. I have never owned an ATV or anything similar....

Also now I have lots of land to hunt but alot of it is unrealistic for walk in with 3 kids....
 
check your local craigslist for argos. i did last night and found an older 8 wheel model with the full roof rack deal for 3500 bucks. now, i don't know much about argos, but sounds like a decent deal to me. from the pic, it looked like it was in ok condition as well, just dirty.
 
I got pricing from Argo for a new one....yikes....going to be a bit pricey with the addon that I want. Chatting with a local fellow who mentioned that the new Argos have some significant engineering improvement both in performance and ride. He using them for work and races to get the new one in the morning because of it...

Still search.....

I did notice that H1 Hummers out of the US have dropped considerably for used ones. That migh make for a very interesting option but will be a bit wide.....
 
forget building a truck... you think argo's are pricy then stay outta wheelin.

quad's are toy's... they seat 2 at best and the one on the back always get's killed in the new's paper... wouldent take my son on mine unless it was an emergency.

i'd find a decent used 8x8 argo that someone else has allready put a few toy's on and scoop it up before you get into the thick of hunting season or wait till after the season closes and find one thats had the depreciation paid for while there not in demand...

i bought a well used terra-jet about 13yr's ago for $800 when argo's were just gettin rolling here in BC... the terra jet was smaller, faster, lighter and had a rebuilt kohler motor with 1 tank of gas thru it.... the seller was buying an argo because it was "neat looking"... watch for deal's like this ;)
 
building a truck is a bit beyond what I want to do at this point. Chatted with the Argo dealer today as well as the local Honda and Yamaha. Pricing of the Argo is not that far out when you look at some of the other new stuff out there.

I have noted a number of used ones but will have to get more familiar with the features that I want, need and would like.

Also found a website dealing with used BV206s....that would be interesting to say the least!
 
hahaha ya the BV's are kinda unique to say the least...
2 non-optional accesories IMHO are a winch with a snatch block and a cable come-along.... no matter what you buy you will end up stuck... how long ya stay stuck depends on the equipment you carry...

P.S... when i think that argo's an such are stupidly over priced for what you get i just remember building my own 4x4... the body was about the only thing stock under this rig, V8, solid axle's, gear's, drive shaft's, V8 conversion, $1400 for 4 tires... ugggg.... buying a argo woulda been a better way to spend 10g's...
