Finish on the 870 Express

I think the finish on the 870 looks cool. Even the the best finish will rust if you don't look after it. Many club member have them and no one have problem at all.

mine has been through hell and back and there is no rust at all on it and ive owned it for almost 3 years. cheap gun so i beat the hell out of it:D i totally take it apart about 5 times a year to clean inside or when it gets soaked. besides that i just wipe it quickly with an oiled rag and no probs so far.

Ya unfortunately the finish will scratch easily, plus the wingmaster bluing is much nicer looking.
I use one of each and the Wingmaster barrel cleans up easier and looks better.

But from what I've read from hunters the only thing to remember is to clean it asap after it gets wet. Apparently flushing it in and out with wd-40 as soon as you can is enough, then rub oil into it when you're back in the cabin and you're gtg.

That Rust Check green-lidded can that says: "Coat and Protect" I've heard is good to use if you expect to be soaked. They also make a red-lidded can that can kill rust if you already have some.

My 870 express rusts like an sob if she gets wet and you say leave it in the case for a few hours if your cleaning geese or whatever...fortunately everything has come off....my wingmaster is a little beat up and old and Ive been debating whether to just paint it with the krylon paint flat black or get it camo dipped..it was the first gun I ever bought and its like my baby....
