When was waiting for my license to get to me I though what guns I wanted. I was looking around and at the time Questar and Wolverine both had the Remington LE 870P Max. I looked at the price and said hell no, no way I am paying 1,330 for that gun + taxes.

Well, I now have that gun and I saved a bit of money. I purchased a 870 Express from LeBaron as soon as the CFO gave my my PAL number and I haven't looked back. Like a fool I kept track of my costs, hopefully this can help someone else.

Remington 870 Express 7 Shot----------------------------------- $437.70
Wilson Combat Ghost Ring Sights-------------------------------- $213.56
Vang Comp Oversized Safety. ---------------------------------- $20.00
TacStar 6 Shot Side Saddle-------------------------------------$36.70
Speedfeed IV-s Pistol Grip Stock from a CGN Member -------------$80.00
SureFire 618FA Forend with P61 Bulb from Daves. ------------$281.00

Total - $1068.96 taxes and shipping in on certain parts.

Now this was my first gun so I had a blast putting it together. I learned alot, had some fun and I know now my gun inside and out. Its a pretty heavy sucker, weighting in at almost 9 lbs loaded, but hey thats why my ghetto rigged sling is for. I need to get a S&J sling plate and some other goodies to finish it off but I am already out of money, and I just placed an order to MilArm for a crate of 7.62x39 and a SKS. bad move.... but fun. Enjoy.

Now I do have one question. I assume this is from the weight of the SureFire forend, but when I have my gun in a vertical position muzzle pointing up the forend slides downward and slides the breach bolt back about 5cm away from the receiver. Anyways it dosent really matter because it locks when its fully pushed foward and has a shell in side, so I guess it should be okay. Breech Bolt Gap Picture

LoL tactical birdshot? Nice rig though, can't wait till I have money to do upgrades.

Its Winchester 2 3/4 1OZ #8 bird shot. Its going out at 1350FPS so whatever, its gonna hurt. Oh so very tactical but I am limited to what type of ammo I can get, hopefully I'll get my card in the next few days so I can head off and pickup some buckshot and more slugs. I got this case of 10 boxes for about 50 bucks which was pretty good. It does the job of breaking in the shotgun and getting the action all silky smooth.

Any recommendations for stores, type or brand? I like buying in bulk and I'd like to pick up atleast 250 rounds of buckshot, and at least 100 3'' slugs. The though of buying slugs in 5 packs makes me sad.

congrats, thats a nice looking setup... you can't even tell that it isn't factory. I too decided against buying the 870p max, and am in the process of building my own, but the way that i want it.

That looks great. The more I see then, the more I want gohst rings.
If you haven't been up to Elwood Epps yet, they should be able to meet your ammo needs.

Next time I am up into Barrie going to cottage country I'll stop by epps, never been but I drove by a few times as a younger kid. Until then I'll stick the the mail, as its about one and a half hours to get to Epps.

Thanks for the comments on the gun guys! I really do appreciate it. The ghost rings are freaking awesome. The tritium is really cool in the dark and helps aiming. I got them installed by ArwinAce, a member here on the board. He drilled and tapped it for me and then installed the rear sight. He epoxied and pinned the front sight so it has no play for me. Also I purchased a vang comp safety from him and he helped me install that. Great guy, look him up at www.tacord.com Hes up in the newmarket area.

You'll all be happy to know that I spent 80 bucks on shells today. Got 8 boxes of Remington 3'' slugs and 8 boxes of Winchester Magnum 2 3/4 00 Buck.

Should have a fun day next time I get out to the range, just hope my shoulder is okay.

Scottie, you should pick up some 2 3/4 slugs as well for comparison. You dont lose anything really ballistically and they hurt a lot less...................

Just a suggestion, when it comes to tactical 2 3/4 are lighter, hurt less and have alot less muzzle climb for quicker target aquisition, oh did i mention your shoulder will thank you?

Thanks Sammy. When I run out of this stull I'll look at some 2 3/4 slugs. I should be okay for now tho, because I have some friends who are more than willing to shoot 3'' slugs. I am going to go up to the range when I get my SKS in and set up targets at 25 and 50 yards and see what kinda groups I can get.

Where did you get the Wilson Combat sights?

I purchased them from a member here, ArwinAce, who owns Tactical Ordnance. I drove down to see him at his shop and had them install him then. Hes a great guy and I learned alot watching him. See him at http://tacord.com/ . The sights were $124, and drilling and tapping aswell as install and epoxy for the front sight was $60. Good deal, and I have been really enjoying them. They really really really help with accuracy while shooting slugs.

Check out canadian tire for slugs. They ususally have boxes of 15 23/4 inch 1 OZ slugs. Usually run for about 11-12 dollars. Does anybody know a manufacturer that makes larger boxes of buchshot?
