Finished my Norinco 1911 build! UPDATED

I decided to go for a brushed stainless look on the grip safety. The polished look didn't match the gun like I hoped. This looks much better now.

Nice looking improvements. Got a commander on the go as well myself. They sure made a mess of the frames with the style of grip safety they used on some of these. I can't even depress mine to function as it came from the factory.
If its worth saying it once I will say it again .... night and day difference.

When I put in the new sear spring it wouldnt engage the grip safety. I had to file down the frame, and adjust the grip safety spring leaf so it wouldnt get caught up on the frame. But I have it engaged perfectly now.

Fitted a new wilson combat high ride grip safety. (Thanks jawsman!). I stripped the blue off the factory one and it corroded very very easily. And it was very loose and rattled and fit was garbage. This new one needed to have the frame tangs filed back, and filed the saftey ledge a bit too. Looks a million times better, much tighter, and fits better even though I didn't blend it to the frame. I didn't want to have to refinish the entire gun.

I filed my frame down a bit around the BT as it was so poorly fitted, and found a way to touch it up good enough. Because it's such a cheap gun, I had some "bright silver metallic" touch up paint from my Jeep I though would probably match well enough. It was a bit shiny, so covered it with some matte clearcote and it's pretty damn close to the crome color that it is hard to notice.

Was it just a generic silver from crappy tire? Or code specific? Id be a lot more inclined to do more fitting and blending if I could match the finish. Refinishing hard chrome would defeat the purpose of this cheap project.

That was a Norinco?? Good job,I have some Norcs,I wouldn't have reconized yours as one without the title/text.How is she shooting, compared to where she came from?

I shot mine side by side to my brothers bone stock norinco 1911 government model. This isn't close to what that stock norinco felt like. His had a 8lb trigger and a lot of creep, all the parts rattled, firing pin stop falls out, barrel bushing is terrible. I took this as a learning opportunity, and see how much I can improve the performance and aperance of my first 1911. After all is said and done, it cost me a total of 700$ for the gun and parts. I did 100% of the fitting and learned more than I ever expected. This gun shoots fantastic! Feels very smooth and tight, trigger is a clean break at 3.5#. It's the most accurate pistol I own, I have a range report up too, and I've only gotten better since. While I was at the range I saw someone shooting the sr1911, and I asked to put a mag through. It was really nice, finish is Better for sure. But the gun did not feel as good as mine. And I didn't see it shoot any better than mine either. It's a cheapo norinco, but I would proudly line it up against any 800$ 1911.
