Well, after being utterly disappointed with the mostly crap available at stores here in Lethbridge, I started building my reloading bench. With only a rough idea of what I would need (but a good idea of what I wanted), I went and bought a whack of 2x6x8ft studs and some oak. Here is the finished product:
Obviously it needs the rest of my crap organized on the shelves but at least I have my old bench emptied and out of my gun room.
So basically this bench is framed with sixteen 2x6" studs. Eight feet long, two feet deep, lots of space to work and reload (doesn't look that big in the pics, actually). Everything is clad in 3/4" oak plywood. The worktop is comprised of three lays of 3/4" plywood. Dammit was that thing a pain in the ass to move from the center of the room to the corner where it is now. The small shelving unit was made with some leftover oak I had i the garage (just finished reno'ing the basement) and is movable when not needed. I still need proper containers for brass and whatnot but that's the easy part. As a bonus for myself, I even found 3000 small pistol primers in my old bench
Last task will be putting up two more sheets of slatwall where my old bench used to be... I need more space for some new toys... the other ones are feeling lonely....
Unfortunately, anchoring the slatwall to the concrete walls is not alot of fun when your wife complains about everything being too heavy to hold *LOL*
So anyways, if anyone is in the same predicament that I was in, not being able to find a proper workspace, it can be both fun and rewarding to make your own. You can build exactly what you need, what you want, and what will fit in the space provided.
