I ordered a pepper laminated stock from Boyds.I've since done final inletting and glass bedding. Next step is finishing pepper laminated stock. What would be the best way to finish this stock?

I finished a camo laminate with a wipe on satin poly product a couple years ago....forget the brand name, but it was off the shelf stuff from Home Depot. A very simple process once the sanding is done, and so far it seems pretty durable. It should be easy to re-do when it needs it...just a light sanding, and wipe on a few more coats. I've done several walnut stocks with tung oil, but avoided it with the laminate stock, as I didn't want to darken the color at all.

Tru-oil or even a good quality marine spar varnish would be good choices.

But whatever you do, don't use varathane or urethane(or any produce containing urethane) on your pepper laminated stock. Their use will turn your nice new stock a sickly green with yellowish stripes along the glue lines.

Ask me how I know

I've used urethane many times with excellent results. The urethane I use is from automotive clearcoats. It is expensive but it is a very hard, durable finish. The problem might be with the cheap stuff bought at the hardware store. You get what you pay for.
