Finn M39 ?

Finns M39 is regarded as the Cadillac of the Mosin. Like desporterizer said, expect to pay $450+ for a good one and from what i saw they seems to be more in the $500-$600 price range fro a very good condition.

I still have the one I bought from Century in the late 80's (85 bucks) Mine is a Sako made SKY marked. Stock has a few dings but metal is very good .Bore is excellant. A very accurate rifle and the front sight being screw adjustable for windage is a real bonus. Perhaps the best Moisant "shooter" available??

The Finns didn't make any Mosins. They bought, traded, and captured many thousands and, when time permitted or war demanded, they refurbished, rebuilt, and spruced them up. Some came out as beautiful rifles and many have a wonderful trail of ownership and use. I have one old girl on a French receiver, several American, and, of course, Russian.

Anyone buying those old rifles would do well to make sure they know what they have. Most of you know the story of my SAT barreled M91.......

I'll correct my post. kjohn is correct. My M39 was not made by Sako (my "figure of speech") but rather has a Sako barrel. My understanding is that most Finnish MN's no matter what model have Russian receivers.
I didn't really think about it but it sounds like the Finn's refurbished/rebuilt some rifles with non Russian receivers as well. I've never seen one yet. Something to watch for?

My intent was not to correct you, but to add to the thread. I have a Russian receiver with an American barrel, plus any number of mixed parts on nearly all my Mosins.

"All matching" isn't necessarily the be all and end all with Finn Mosins. All Finn rifles have a wonderful trail. I have one that is "Finn" M91, "B" (Belgian) barrel, "W" (Vienna stamped), "D" stamped, 1942 barrel, on an 1899 Tula receiver, and does not have a two piece stock. Whew! There is probably more to the rifle, but I'm sure you get the idea!

Just to add to the 'Finn" lore. There was an older gentleman who belonged to our gun club. He was a Finlander who had been in the Finnish Army. He brought a M39 to the range (show and tell) which he said had been his issue rifle. I never asked how he got to keep it but no reason not to believe him. He had flown as a bush pilot in Northern Man. for years and was a very interesting man to talk to.
He did not know that Finland did not build any receivers for their service rifles. I brought him a couple references from books and off the internet and I'm still not sure he was convinced!

Interesting! Oh, if only these beautiful old rifles could speak! Just holding one and letting its spirit come to you is all most of us can hope for now, as most of the men who shouldered these rifles are not within our reach.

I have wanted to buy a nice one for a few years now with no luck ? they dont seem to come up on the EE much . When i did find a nice one it ended up having a bulge in the barrel im guessing from a muzzle full of snow or ice , luckily the seller gave me a refund ..
