Finn M91 barrel bulge

OP, I wasn't going to say anything BUT now I know who you're yakking about.

I'm sorry but as someone who has bought from buffdog, shot with him, slurped back coffee and hung around with him for years. I'm going to say this:

There's no effing way that Buffdog would ruin his reputation for $275. No effing way he'd work you over, lie, cheat or steal from you!!

He ain't that kinda guy and I'll stake my reputation on it.

He's one of the finest people I've ever known PERIOD.

Maybe next time give the guy a chance to make it right instead of spewing nonsense!

Jeez, what happened to this forum??

That's good. I'm sure he's a great guy in your experience, but unlike yourself I dont know him. I never said he stole from me. That would be a little much in my opinion. I'm actually very glad to hear some members say that the price was fair despite the bulge. Others consider it a parts rifle. I posted on here not knowing if I had extremely overpaid or if I came out of it OK. Again, I do not proclaim myself to be an expert, and was hoping some people would chime in that knew more than me about bulges and counterbored rifles. People asked me if I knew about the bulge before buying and I said I didn't. The guy sold me a rifle and didn't mention a bulged barrel. It still shoots well. He didn't break in my house and beat my dog. Let's not get too dramatic.

Sorry if I'm being dramatic.

My problem is you never gave him a chance to make it right.

When buying old/surplus firearms once in awhile you'll get one that has damage a buldge or something else you don't like.

At that point after inspecting it, contact the seller and state your case . You may be surprised but most sellers in my experience will make it right even if it's going to cost them money. Why? Because honesty and integrity are a big thing.

If after some correspondence he tells you to pound salt have at er and post away. But 99% of the time it's not Warrented.

But from the sounds of it maybe you jumped the gun a little?

Anyway that's all I'm going to say about that.

My guess is the bulge may have happened after the rifle was surplussed from the army but that is only a guess.

I can say that I have met Buffdog in person and he is very knowledgable and would not misrepresent. This sounds like a case of assumptions made during the sale, something I have done a few times which either worked out or didn't. I think we all, future buyers and sellers, can take a lesson from this and apply it.

@ groverino, OP

If you are so unhappy about the deal, who not just sell the rifle?

I would certainly be willing to pick up a TIKKA barrel for, say, $225.

No, I'm not being a low-baller at all: I am just continuing YOUR policy of screwing the price down 50 bucks.

Far as I am concerned, low-balling an already-fair price indicates either a condition of poverty or a complete cheapskate. Your choice. Low-balling a price and THEN purchasing indicates an acceptance of "as-is, where-is" in which case you have no comeback in ethical dealing.

If you know HALF as much about rifles as you think you know, you would know for certain that the military would only counterbore a rifle under one of TWO conditions. They are (1) severe muzzle damage, or (2) a bulged barrel near the muzzle, usually from snow, mud or some idiot shooting out a cleaning patch.

As far as Buffdog is concerned, you will find damned few Gentlemen more ethical to deal with.

This thread is an insult to the entire Milsurp community.

You have no idea what you're talking about. I never lowballed anyone. Again, where did this thing come from where I claim to know so much about rifles? Believe what you will. Who could have thought I would insult the entire milsurp community?

Wait WTF just happened. Why is this being turned around on the OP?

He did nothing wrong. He was not informed about the issue. He should get his money back, if he chooses to. That being said, it wasn't a bad price... but knowing about the bulge, would I personally buy it? No.

BUT what he does in the end is up to him. I cant believe people on CGN always find some way to turn things around, and every thread goes to shi* before being locked.

Funny how that works isn't it? First time for me but it's interesting if nothing else.

I've decided to keep this rifle forever. I am going to name her Bulgey and love her just as much as her less curvaceous sisters. Someone has to.

lol but you could always sporterize her, cut down the barrel, scope mount etc......

Just kidding. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I'm a troll?

Remember that, next time you ask for help or information.

Never know WHAT might be lurking on here.

Might even be TROLLS.

You wouldn't want information or help from a Troll.

Lets be nice folks! There was a miscommunication & both parties feel slightly cheated. Buffdog wasn't trying to cheat Groverino & I am sure the op was surprised to find what he considered a major fault with the rifle. Haven't we all had deals like this on the ee? I once shipped a No4 to slug with no safety & I didn't even notice the damned thing was missing! He pmed me about it & I offered to pay for a replacement. He had one in stock & declined my offer, no hard feelings.

Good reminder also about the time I insulted a whole community. I've never done that before. Individuals yes, and possibly a family, but never an entire community.

I don't think he was trying to cheat me either, and I'm relieved to hear that he didn't do it by accident. I think that he is extremely confident in his knowledge of these rifles (perhaps justifiably so) and truly didn't see it as the flaw that myself and others might. Its the only explanation that makes any sense to to me.

the rifle is counter bored so the bulge is now irrelevant, have the bulge turned down and re blue or leave it as it is ,its cosmetic and dose not effect function of the rifle,

Is this advisable? Wouldn't that thin down the barrel walls too much? Aesthetically it might be workable but would you trust it? I'm just speculating here & don't really know if that would be a safety concern or not. I know I have a Parker Hale No1 MkIII with a sporterized turned down barrel and it's safe so???? Guess it all depends how much material would need skinned off. Would hate to blow the end of the barrel right off. Who knows ..... maybe I'm just being paranoid.
