A friend stopped by today with this "50 $" wallhanger.
I know that it's a Tikka Arsenal reworked M/N 91.

But for the life of me I don't know what AZF stands for?
And this rifle has to be counterbored!

D cartridge is slightly bigger or smaller?
And restamped Arshins means capture or surplus buy?

.
It's not refurb'd

The stock is a little tough.
I said I'd give him fair market value. Any opinions on what that might be?

I believe the "AZF" relates to the receiver being part of an M91 captured by the Austro-Hungarians during WW1.

Thats one nice "wall hangar" for $50 :D.

Correct on the AZF- the Finns bought rifles from the Austrians, among others.

The rear sights were manufactured in Russia in Arshins, hence just about all the rear sights on the M91/M27/P series up until the Finns began making their own style rear sight with the M28-30 will be restamped.

D indicated throating for the Finnish D166 bullet, a moot point these days as the original D166 shape projectiles are very rare. From what I've gleaned the current D166 produced by Lapua has been modified in shape.

That's an early 'second run' Tikka, and would be more sought after than the more common 1942 or later dates seen. Low serial number as well. I won't hazard a guess, but $50 would be a smokin' deal for the rifle. The 1942 Tikka's go for around 300 these days, for reference. This one could fetch more.

He paid 50 $, I've got to give him fair market value.
If I wasn't honest I could have gotten it cheap.
But he's a good guy. And I don't roll that way.
If he wants to get rid of it; I get dibs. If I can't afford it I'll post it on here.

That counterbore was regular practice for a regimental armorer on the battlefield.
Often, a counterbore was sufficient to true up a rifle with a damaged muzzle.
Very nice and interesting piece you got there! I wish I could have a look at the underside of the rear action tang.
PP.
