finnally got a M14!!!!!!

you WILL WANT TO RE- THINK THAT 180 GRAIN FEED- the m14s et al DON'T LIKE IT and will wear out YOU'LL END UP REPLACING OP-RODS AND A BUNCH OF OTHER STUFF- YOU WANT 165-168 GRAIN BULLETS AT MOST( actually, that's what most of them like)- the odd box or two of 180's won't do any harm, but they're awful tough on the action as a steady diet- tough as in something's gonna break sonner or later

I got one on the way from the EE, checking the mail everyday.
Hungry, do you have any more of the last clinic dvds lying around, I can't make this years (just barely  ) but I really want to get into the belly of this beast, it's not just my first M14, it's my first rifle too.
Also, I got a box of milsurp here ready to go, are the milsurps 168 grain?
Thanks, I'll post again when I have my paws on it.

Liam

I got mine on Sunday from Ellwood Epps.
I am new to semiauto guns, so it will be fun to learn how to reload and take care for my new toy.
All I can say, I am very happy.

this place is a treasure trove for fans of the m14/305 series- esp with guys like hungry et al( means all the rest for those who dot't know latin) hanging out here- lots of them USED TO COMPETE OR STILL DO and know most if not all of the tricks

yah it can get expensive quick. Squeezing off round after round is addictive and not to mention fun!! I am looking at a reloader as well. Try to save a little money on cost of rounds. Peter Pan has you fired it yet? If not wait till you do!!! Alot of fun.

if they ever get rid of these stupid mag limits, you'll find yourself NEEDING A RIFLE CAPABLE PROGRESSIVE real quick- in the old days, it wouldn't be impossible to go through a full mag ( 20 rounds ) in about 5 minutes, pulling and patching taking most of the time- that gives you 10 2 round quickies- we've all done it- boom-boom just sound better than boom---- boom- it wasn't uncommon to go through 11 mags at a "session"- 4 on your belt in pouches, 6 on the drag-bag and 1 in the rifle- now it seems kind of stupid to carry any more than a couple either in the drag-bag or pouches

it's beacuse the OPPORTUNITY EXISTS to unleash hell, not juist a few rounds- wait till you get the chance to go FULL AUTO- there's nothing like a belt

thanks GGAFB I always wondered about that. The a lot thing. I don't sweat small things like people questioning the make and model of my rifles. I shoot what I can afford and what I like. To H..E.. double hockey sticks with what other people think! I am open to constructive critism, and options for different things, but don't slam what I got and I won't slam what they got. Thanks again for the grammar lesson......LOL

he could be having trouble "learning" a new keyboard like i am- new prescription in my glasses and i haven't got totally used to it yet- and i took 3 years of touch typing and never did learn the trick of not looking at the keys- failed all three years-
anyway, like i said before if it looks like a duck, etc- the only downside to my m14/305 chinese whatever is that it's one of those early ones with the hump ground off and it still wears the chu wood- i still haven't made up my mind as to whether to change that or not - it also wears no marks other than the serial number , made in p.r.o.c, and the norinco star-the EARLY ones were DIRECT copies of the m14, with all the goodies with the exception of the connector and full auto lug- something ,which also the last time i looked, the only OTHER game in town, the springfield, also has with the exception of the DISMOUNT NOTCH in the rail- the trigger group on both the early norc and the springfield BOTH have the full auto hooks yet- THE MAIN DIFFERENCE EXISTS IN THE PRICE AND WARRANTY-and lately springfield's quality control has been suspect to say the least- being canada , the best bet for your money IS ONE OF THE NEW NORCS- the guys stateside are jumping over each other to get to a norc or poly action, to which they invariably have to put in a usgi bolt and new barrel- WE'VE GOT ALL THAT DONE WITH THE NEW NORCS- THERE ARE NO HARDNESS ISSUES WITH THE NEW NORCS- what you read on the web is about the old rifles and written by a guy with a somewhat vested interest, seeing as he OWNS FULTON ARMOURY
rant off
anyway, i COULD MAKE a remark about it being chinese, but 1, it's RACIST, 2,UNFOUNDED AS THE QUALITY IS EQUAL OR BETTER than the north american product-as i do have BOTH- and not the current issue m1a either

My factory untouched Norc will stay under 2" for 5 with everything I've tried in it. The gun has never missed a beat and is a blast to shoot. I was at the range last fall when a guy brought out a Springfield that he had payed $1800 for. It had a very nice stock. Too bad it wouldn't shoot as good as my $399 Chinese special. Don't be bashing these till you've tried one.

I payed alittle more than 399, but it was worth it and I am MORE than happy with it. I could not afford a springfield, so this was the next best thing. I got mine from Frontier firearms in Prince Albert, Sask. My groups were just under 2 inches with 5 rounds. I am quite happy with that. My buddy and I both shot small groups at 100m. I don't know which one of us was more excited about our new rifles me or him?!?!

I plan on leaving mine stock with the wood it came with.
