Someone I know is selling a 1943 finnish mosin, with the non stepped tikka barrel, great wood, good rifling, but the bore is frosted and dark. Cleaning rod is missing and rear sight need repair. He wants $200 for this mosin. I'm tempted but concerned with the bore and if it would still be a reasonable shooter. Anybody have experience with dark bores in these mosins and for $200 is it worth it ??

Thanks

I had a 1942 m91 with a VKT counterbored barrel. It was counterbored, dark and pitted in the grooves. I could consistently hit a windshield wash jug at 100 yards with open sites. It kicked like a mule too.

Rear sight damage would worry me a bit-it might make it impossible to aim right.
Try shooting 5 rounds if you can and if everything is OK than 200$ is a good deal.
IMO dark, frosty bores are no problem at all as long as bore size is still consistent all the way.

Rarity

$200 is good for a Finn 91/30, even if it needs repair. They are some of the rarest Mosin-Nagants out there and often have great stories to tell of you do a little research.

Cheers!

Dave
