My Grandfather gave me an SVT-40 a few years ago that originally belonged to a Finnish fellow who liberated it during the Winter war.

The gun has not been factory refurbished and this seems to support the Finnish story. Could someone tell me where to look for Finish Capture marks or even post a picture of what they should look like.

Thanks for the Help guys. :)

Yes, it would have a SA inside a little rectangle on the side or top of the chamber. Also could have a (T) on it if they tested it. I believe, I have on, its just at home so I cant verify

All SA stampings I have seen are on the left side of the action.

Mine was a globco butcher job.
I restored it so it looks pretty, but more
Of a piece of history now then a shooter.
I've got another one on order! Lol

How did the Finish ordnance system work?

Wouldn't the SA marked rifles be the ones that have been turned in, and then re-issued?

If the story is correct, and the guy captured it himself and kept it, rather than turn it in - why would you expect it to have SA capture marks?

Finland was extremely short for any weapons in the 1940's. They were short on food, transportation clothing, you name it, they had very little in all catagories. I seriously dought a soldier returning home would be allowed to keep a rifle when his fellow soldiers were short of rifles and all other equipment.

Yes, I doubt it as well.

Thanks for all the info guys, I had forgotten about this thread. I actually haven't been home long enough to check the gun.

The fellow the gun came from apparently had quite a few stories about skiing through Russian camps at night and shooting into tents.

The cleaning rod and latch are present, from memory there are very few stampings on the Gun. Talking with relatives it is possible that my Grandfather traded the Owner of Globe Firearms for the rifle at his Ottawa shop. The shells that came with the gun were Globe label.

I wish the rifle could talk.
