Finnish Lahti L-35 Pistol

Anyone have any comments, or might sell one, or at least know what they're worth?

A rare pistol that is regarded by many to be of very high quality. I would expect this to be expensive. Apparently only 9000 were made so there probably aren't that many in Canada.

Just checked and I didn't see one
Would love to get one. Only ever seen one on the EE and I was too late

Yeah, it's gone. Must have sold in the last few days, I think it was around $950.

Collector's Source also had one, now recently sold as well.

$950, That isn't too bad. I will have to add it to the list. I was under the impression they were pretty much unobtanium.

I can't remember what I paid, but my "Lahti" is actually the Swedish Husqvarna M-40 (no, I don't want to sell it). It's a somewhat simplified design and purported to be not as reliable as the Finnish pistol, although I've never had any trouble with mine. I think the Swedish guns are a bit easier to find than the original Finnish pistols, but neither is what you'd call plentiful.

A large number of Swedish Lahti’s were sold in Canada in the 60's.
Old Lever had them for about $80.00, with a holster, extra magazine, tool and cleaning rod.
They were a very nice pistol to shoot with gloves on and the accelerator made them dependable with all the ammunition I shot in them.
The 9mm ammunition was issue and a wide variety of surplus.

Congrats! Where did you find it and might I inquire as to how much? Feel free to send me a PM if you don't care to make that public.

Thanks, Clotho. I got it at Collector's Source http://www.collectorssource.com/. They were advertised time ago in their Handgun page but have since been removed. However I contacted Al Fraser (one of the owners) via the site and asked if they still had any. Apparently there are more of them so give it a try. I don't know what the price will be for the remainder but this one here came in just shy of eight-hundred plus shipping and taxes. Considering these are so hard to find I didn't see any point in arguing, it's not like one is going to come around the EE anytime soon. They also have spare mags at a reasonable price. Good luck!

The next question is, and this applies to any milsurp I suppose, should I refinish it (I can do it quite well)? My opinion is bluing is meant to protect the firearm and if the original application is wearing off with risk to the firearm rusting, then it's a no-brainer. However, I am open to suggestions and opinions in case I want to sell it again sometime in the future as I'd like to in the very least get my money back. What do you guys think?

I'm a registered collector, and I collect certain handguns. You have a collectible pistol, and if you want to sell to a collector, keeping the original finish is recommended. If you're concerned about rust, then maintain the gun by wiping it down periodically with a lightly oiled cloth. If you want to improve the looks, then by all means, refinish. But do keep in mind that collectors look for guns in their original condition. They look for the best-looking examples they can find, but they tend to want the original finish.

Thanks for the opinion. In my mind these are rare enough now that a collector or anyone else will buy it in any decent condition, should I decide to sell it one day. In the end I will likely just keep it the way it is, I can occupy my time refinishing other things. And this'll be a shooter, like my other guns, by the way.
