Hello,

I was looking at Speckfire's Straight Stock M-39 on the EE, and the serial number totally confuses me! I understood there to only be 6000 or so of these made, and they started the production serials at 20000. I own one, numbered 201344, but his is 213545. It just seems oddly out of the numerial range? Can anyone explain this oddity? My only guess is it's a late production SAKO that was put into a straight stock they had sitting around, as I understood they switched to pistol grip stocks after 6000 were made?

Thanks,
Drachenblut

But it looks like it has 1944 on the barrel? The serial number is 21534? the last digit is unclear on the barrel.

There are no straight stocked SAKO M-39's after 1941 unless it's a put-together in the late war. It's a 41, I have the same marking on my barrel. He mentions it's a 41

I'm going by the pictures provided? if the barrel marked 1944, then it's possible it's a 1941 re barreled now after looking at this image

You can see the poor "1" stamping

It also looks like a possible new fore-end (or back-end ?) was put on as the colour and grain of Birch doesn't appear to match at the finger joint.

I have a similar feature on my Tikka M91.'

It may also be possible that an earlier straight grip stock was put on this rifle during a possible rebuild.
