I want to polish up my SS Ruger Redhawk to more of a shine, is there any harm in doing so? Is there some type of outer finish I would be removing?

Now for my other question, I also want to polish a couple parts on my Norinco 1911 (which is, of course, blued). Is there any harm in polishing off the bluing to a stainless-steal shine? (outer-surfaces only, internals will be left alone)

Any special tricks you guys use? Thanks! :D

If your ruger is stainless steel it shouldn’t be a problem. Polishing the bluing will most likely remove it.

If you have princess auto or hose of tools they sell cheap polishing felts and rouge. That’s what I use.

Thanks for the feedback! What I want to essentially do, is polish some of my blued 1911 parts to an almost mirror-like shine (This means I intentionally want to remove the bluing and bring the bare metal to a polished shine). Would this cause more rusting down the road, then say an actual SS gun? I have polished one part from blue to a white shine already, and I have yet to see any signs of rusting. I have even left in over night wet to see what would happen, and it was still the same....any thoughts before I do more parts, or am I nuts?

Nuts in my opinion, bare metal will likely rust eventualy. Will have to be carefull to keep it well oiled and wipe off finger prints after use. You will also have to be carefull with humidity I would think. Even blued steel will rust if you don't look after it.
