hey there breaking in a 2nd batch of brass for my 308 target rifle. ive only ever fire formed a big wild cat b4 with 20 gr of win 231.

so just wondering how much should i use in a 308 win cartridge along side cream of wheat. thanx.
 
because my virgin brass is not nearly as accurate as the previously fired and neck sized regular firings. and then im just wasting a bullet.

ive done the load development and got an accurate handload, just put a group at a 1000 inside 6.25"

but with the virgin handloads at 600 its all over .
 
is your chamber horribly out of spec?? in some/ few cases you MAY see some differance between new and fire formed brass, but it shouldnt be 6" at 1000 to 12+ at 1/2 the distance
 
dunno about chamber specs,but i made up the same load using neck sizing vs full length .lee collet vs rcbs. same batch of everything,same powder load etc. the necksized loads were .378-.4 " 5 shots at 200 yards .....the full length were exceeding 2 " . i did two grouping cause thought it was me. and that was previously fired brass.

ill try 10 gr of 231 or 8 gr of bulleseye to fireform my brass
