I checked the status of my application last night and it has been issued and I should be getting it within 2 weeks! Super excited and with the long wait I have been doing some research and I think I am set for my first 2 rifles. Let me know if there is anything that I should know about these other than cleaning instructions for the SKS that I found in the Red Rifle section of the forum.

Also can anyone recommend a good gun lube.

1.) Russian Siminov SKS
2.) Mossberg Plinkster 802 bolt action .22LR

Our status changed to "issued" last Wednesday, November 14th. Was hoping our PAL/RPAL's would have showed up in the mail today but nothing so far :(
We are dealing with the BC CFO though, and from what I understand they are the slowest... Ah well, here's hoping that I will be proven wrong!

Congratulations to both of you.

Regarding lube, I've always just used the hoppes oil and its worked well for me.
Regarding gun care for sks, I've used youtube videos to help in understanding the assembly and disassembly.
Regarding the mossberg plinkster, I recommend paying a few more bucks up front and get something else. A friend had one and in my opinion, it felt too flimsy, light, fragile. I can't speak for its accuracy. If I were to get a bolt 22 ( which I did recently) I would get a savage mkii. Very accurate.

Again congratulations, and welcome!

We both have already put deposits on "toys", just waiting for the mail to arrive to actually possess them! What else are you supposed to do with the time you have to wait to get your license than research and comb gun stores both traditional and online? lol!

BC CFO dose not issue & send your PAL they only approve it.
CFC in NB sends it

I heard a lot about Hoppes, I'll take a look. Thanks.
I was looking at Savage's mark 2s, I so far haven't really been sold on a .22 yet. Maybe I'll keep looking.

Thanks, I'll look into that as well.

I had my phone interview nov 26th, and when I checked my status later that evening it said it was complete and should be here in 2 weeks. My question is this: can I call and get my pal/rpal number so that I can order something online or do I have to wait for the card in the mail?

Here is how I understand it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If you applied for pal and rpal at the same time you would need to contact your provincial CFO, as the 1 800 number in mirimichi will not give this to you. I've heard that depending on the province and CFO they may or may not give you the number and simply tell you to wait till it arrives in the mail.

If you are already a pal holder and upgrading to an rpal, your number will stay the same. What will be different on your card will be the last four digits. Example if your current card ends with .0001, your new card will be .0002 as this is the second card issued to this license number.

Depending on the type of purchase you may be required to show proof of your liscense by fax, scanning and emailing a picture or photocopy of your pal of which then you would need to wait till you have the card in your hands.

The info could be good enough for restricteds its

Name:
Pal:
Adress
Phone:
Club or collector (name of club)
Place of Birth (I don't like giving this out as it can make it easy to steal your card with all the info as that's what they use to check your id when you call)

To the OP (and second poster as well) congrats on joining an awesome hobby. No real experience with either of these firearms, shot an SKS a few times with an aftermarket stock. Watched my buddy break his new SKS down, looked EXTREMELY simple. Depends where you get the SKS from, they may have already cleaned it up, but make sure you get every last bit of packing grease off it and oil it before you take it out to the range. Try not to get too excited with buying a bunch of new toys, really take your time to figure out what's best for you. There is no such thing as too many guns (unless you don't eat or have a place to live because of it) but make sure the gun you're getting is something you'll use. Nothing worse than making that impulse buy and shooting it once only to discover you hate it and have to sell it at a decent loss.

Thanks all!

I received my firearms license in the mail and have bought myself an SKS. It's all cleaned up and ready to fire, can't wait to shoot it. I am still not sold on a .22, I keep looking at Savage's Mark 2 but I am still unsure.

Look at Ruger 10/22s recommended highly but everyone. Might have a slight problem getting your hands on one. I called in last week to a local shop to get a quote and the guy told me he has no idea when they'll be in because Ruger is 1million guns behind the demand. Unless you can find one in your local shop on the shelf, you might be SOL.

Thanks, I was looking extensively into Ruger's 10/22 line but I think I want to stick with a bolt action.
