Im not sure if this is the right forum for this question so please delete if not allowed, however I was just wondering what everyone uses in their gun storage cabinets to keep out moisture?

I have reusable metal cans filled with desiccant balls. They are orange and turn green after a couple months when they have be put in the oven to dry out again. I think i got them at cabellas but i dont remember.

I have desiccant, but I also use a de-humidifier to keep the humidity in the basement at 50-55. In the winter its usually 40 with the wood furnace on.

Dollar Store "Damp Traps" And I fondle them often with an oily rag.

i upholster my cabinets with carpet. Then also run a dehumidifier (~$200) 24/7. Costs about $7-8 in hydro per month and its easier than buying absorbing agents while stored in a cellar. I get about 30-40% humidity with this and no rust on guns and all ammo well kept. Works for me and i am happy with this model. The rechargable units are ok if upstairs or stored in ammo boxes. I find the powered dehumidifier is the easiest.

for upholstry just cut up a clearance carpet and use apoxy and fit it in....they turn out great and protect your investments with smooth padded surfaces.

Most people probably do nothing. First you should measure the humidity in the room. If it never goes over 35 you probably dint need tondo anything.

Any dessicant pack will help, but if you get 70%+ humidity fir any significant length of time throughout the summer, you will want to do something to manage that.

Golden rod, dehumidifier. Im kind of pulling a number out of thin air here but it wouldnt be unreasonable to spend 10% of the value of your firearms collection on a good storage set up that protects the collection.

I cant really say i dont do anything but my gun room is vented and i run the blower on my furnace and ac unit for continuous air circulation. Ive never had rusting issues in my gun room even when my wife shuts off the ac and opens windows and gets my house up over 70% humidity. It doesnt take long for the ac to drop it back down once i get home
