What is the best cleaning tool I see their is rods,cables,and snakes. Is one better than the rest or do all have their benefits?
 
It comes down to personal preference, but most experienced guys seem to like one piece rods from what I have read on the subject. Some guys will tell you they would never use a bore snake, and some swear by them. It also depends on what you are cleaning, I use a bore snake on my 12 guage, but would never use one on a rifle or pistol, just my personal thing,,lol, I have nightmares about snapping one off in the bore :)
You will read many different opinions on what is right and what is wrong, in the end it will come down to what you prefer yourself, you will find the same problem with asking about which cleaning product to use and which lubricant lol.
Good luck, in the end I bought a $40 kit, it has worked for me so far, but I don't own any high end guns I would worry enough about for it to be an issue, if I did, I would invest in the best one piece rods I could find

At the end of my basic training somebody on my course had his bore snake snap on him right before a parade. The look of fear he had on his face when he had to ask the staff for another rifle gave me nightmares so I've avoided them since them. I've come around and started using them now, I find they work well as long as you don't over pull if it gets caught on something in the chamber.
 
One piece rod with mautipule cotton ends the big Q tip type. one for drying the barrel after cleaning and one for lubricating.i find they leave everything nice and shiny you get and even coating though the barrel and lots of cut up patches for the actual cleaning. If I shot a lot that day I can use up to 30 patches on one barrel.
I have bore snakes but I find after multiple uses they are so dirty I don't see the point on cleaning my gun with them
