Let's not forget the clear message that the liberals are sending to all Canadians here: Law abiding, responsible, hard working Canadian firearms owners are WORSE than gang bangers, drug dealers, rapists, and murders. The liberals are broadcasting to everyone around the world that all PAL holders in Canada should be feared more than the aforementioned thugs; their numbers say this loud and clear.
Not convinced? Well, let's take a look.
From CBC News, "...the federal Liberal government has committed just $87 million over five years for detection dogs, X-ray technology, ballistics testing and other measures to stifle rising gun violence." Now contrast that with the, so far, committed $250M to "buy back" legally acquired and possessed property from honest law abiding Canadians. To clarify further, that's $87M spread out over five years versus a quarter billion dollars shoveled out in one shot.
If the liberals consider their five year plan as a "top priority" (CBC News), but are only committing a total of $87M, or $17.4M per year, then what are they saying about firearms owners in this country? The liberals then must consider firearms owners to be an even larger threat to all of humanity than the worst criminals you could ever imagine. If "top priority" is worth $87M spread out over five years, than how high a level of threat/priority must the liberals consider honest folks, in legal possession of legally acquired property, to be if they're willing to cough up $250M in one shot?
I remember all too well the knee-jerk fiasco that resulted from the 1989 shooting in Montreal. Everyone then, like now, allowed irrational emotions to guide their way while completely disregarding any logic, science, or facts of any kind. But this time it is worse, much worse. As ridiculous as the new restrictions and classifications imposed upon us in 1995 were, at least it was thoroughly debated with everyone at least had a feeling that their voice was somewhat heard. Furthermore, although there were plenty of folks with the "why does anyone even need a firearm" mindset back then as well, the government was NOT painting all firearms owners as some sort of comic book super-villain whose sole purpose in life is to amass an arsenal of "assault style, military-grade weapons" with the intention of who knows what.
Further amplifying the point that the liberals view firearms owners as a threat to humanity, greater than anything it has faced up to this point, is their refusal to introduce their so called gun "control" platform in the House and open it up for debate. Sure the Bloc and the NDP both claim to support any new legislation, but if this were open to debate in the house, made public, and MPs started having their constituents bombarding them to vote 'no', you may very well see that party whips end up with more than which they bargained and the motion failing. So ramming this through now, via an OIC with a minority government that lost the popular vote, and having the willingness to blow $250M in one shot demonstrates to the world the threat that the liberals believe are firearms owners.
Finally, for all the naysayers out there, this is indeed a slippery slope. Except it's not the beginning of it as we're already sliding down the hill. All it takes is an irresponsible and unaccountable government to misuse and abuse their power once and it gets easier and easier every subsequent time. Look at these past five years, the liberals have gotten so used to doing whatever they want unchallenged, the people be damned, that they move about now with a feeling of complete impunity. So, is this latest gun "control" reform the beginning of a slippery slope? Nope, we're already half down the hill my friends.
