Firearms transfer process post registry?

So, what will the process be for transferring non restricted firearms after today?

Well, there will be no "transfer".

Purchase from a store:

You walk into a store, pick out a non restricted, employee will look at you PAL, you pay for the gun, you walk out of the store with it.

You purchase from another individual:

The person MAY call the CFC to make sure you PAL is valid, you pay him/her, he/she gives you the non restricted, transaction complete.

I was curious about this as well. I like the idea of still having to check with the CFO when doing private transfers but how do you really enforce that with no registry? I definitely don't like the idea of someone without a PAL possibly being able to purchase a gun from a private seller. Any legit info on how they actually plan to control this?

There's an obligation on the seller to have a reasonable belief that the buyer is properly licensed. This can be done a number of ways including calling the CFC and confirming the license number is valid, or showing the license and making sure the picture matches the face and it's not expired.

If someone wants to sell a gun illegally, there has been no change. Transfers to unlicenced individuals have been happening since 1978. They will continue to happen.
Check the buyers PAL. If you are suspicious, call to confirm that the PAL is valid.
If the person has a PAL, and you feel uneasy about making the transfer, don't. Take responsibility for your actions. Don't depend on big brother.
I've lived through pre-FAC, FAC and PAL times. Don't imagine a problem when there isn't one.

It is still illegal to knowingly sell a gun to an unlicensed person....just like before...no change there.
This is what the antis couldn't understand. They think we're all criminals anyway and now we'll all be selling our guns to gang bangers as soon as we can!

That there is the sound of someone missing the entire point of ending the LGR.

As gun owners, we must do our due diligence and check that the buyer has a valid PAL. The way the bill was written, we have both been given an extraordinary gift, and the according responsibility. If selling in person, make sure you see the PAL and it looks legit. If selling on line, get the name and PAL number and call it in.

Hmmm...Didja even understand what the rules were when you applied for your PAL. You see, they eliminated the Registry. The need to have a PAL is still the same. When you sell you need to make sure the person has a PAL. The onus is on you...it is the law. If you are stupid enough to sell a firearm to someone, and you do not check, well, lets say you for simplicity sake that you are breaking the law. The same goes with buying. The person selling HAS to have their PAL. Would you buy a car from someone whom has no license (excepting of course the old widow stuff)?

You see...it is quite simple, to drive a vehicle you MUST have a drivers license. To possess a firearm you MUST have a PAL/POL license. Simple stuff.

So the registry is actually gone as of now, or it will be goon soon? Tomarrow I go to the local hunting shop and no more registering?

If the GG gives C-19 royal assent (from all indications, this will happen this evening) and sets today, or 12:01 AM Friday April 6th as the inforce date (not sure but seems like it could be) , then yes.

Is this really true?there are plenty of unregistered guns out there that would be legal to have and use,and I mean non-restricted,simply case they were never registered won't mean anything once the registry is gone, there should be no record whether they were ever registered or not...

Let's make it super clear as a GREAT many firearms owners on this site do not have experience with the pre PAL/POL/long gun registry world .

All.... And I say All non restricted firearms(except stolen ones or illegal imported ones if such things exist), currently in the posession of a person with a valid firearms liscence, become legally posessed without a registration cert.

So what does it mean to you as a buyer/seller
If the old rules apply, it is your responsibilty to be aware of the laws and abide by them.
This means verifying the buyer/seller has a valid firearms liscence.

Making it even simpler.... It should be no different than buying ammo.... No phone calls to cfc required, simply verify PAL and all is good.

Sure, it may open the door to unscrupulous behavior.... But we all know that the firearms act and long gun registration did nothing to stop the illegal arms trade and laws exist to punish those folks.

Anyhow, holding my breath and waiting for the final axe blow.
