Hey! I had a couple people ask me how my trip to the USA went last weekend, when I went down to try out some handguns.
I got to shoot a Kimber Ultra Carry, a Kimber Custom II, a Sig P2009, Taurus Millenium, FN 5.7, S&W Airweight and a Glock 20.

Of these I learnt that the .45acp is definitely too much for me. I'm not a revolver girl. Oh! And that I believe Sigs just don't like me. I had limp wrist problems whereby every single shot I fired the ejecting casing jammed up. It was the handgun I was looking fwd to firing off the most of and I couldn't shoot 2 rounds in a row. Very disappointing. I know it wasn't the gun itself or the mags because I was the only person with this problem.

I also went down to the Kittery Trading Post and got to handle quite a few handguns. They didn't seem to mind the effort of taking them out for me :D
I got to fondle a P99, SW99, BHP, Taurus 24/7, M&P, Beretta 90two, Steyr M9, AR15 and an AK47.

Of all of the handguns I held in my hands and fired I definitely liked the Steyr the best. No doubt about it. It fit my hand absolutely perfectly.
I think that will be my frist handgun. I will just have to get used to the sights on it, hopefully it won't be too hard.

My only slight concern is the apparent lack of availability of accessories. I dont know if anyone has any light to shed on that.

But I learnt alot this trip!!! :dancingbanana:

Make sure you shoot the Steyr before you buy it!!
I borrowed one at the range once, and it fit my hand, i liked the way it felt, but i really didn't like shooting it....
For me, it just didn't seem 'weighted' right to shoot.
Glad to see you had a good trip though.....

Morgayne as for the sights don't think about it. If you get that gun just shoot it, alot. Get a big box of bullets go to the range and shoot it, move your hand around, change your finger position on the trigger, change your support hand around a bit. You never know what is right till you try alot of the other stuff. In doing all these things you will find what you like and what feels good. Also by thinking about this other stuff you won't be worrying about the sights. So after you've made all that empty brass messing with your grip and such you will know if you can use those sights. Then if you don't like them you can give me directions to cliff you want me to jump off of and have the sights changed.

The US is great(when it comes to guns) isn't it? I can pop over the border and rent almost any gun I could ever want to try out on the range. Too bad the border guards are suck dicks!

I have a box of 500 rounds sitting on my bedroom floor being a doorstop right now. Haha

Thanks everyone for the advice!

You did it the smarter way. Usually "guys" will go buy a big gun because it looks cool... never having tried it or shot one like it. Then they're too macho to admit they messed up and the firearm they bought is not really suited for what they want / do with it and yet they will not admit to their mistakes. Glad to see the ladies are still smarter than us :D!

Regards,
