I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the 9 mm. I think every new handgun shooter should skip the 22 and go straight for a 9mm semi or 38 spl revolver. Take the money you save by not buying a 22 and put it all toward centerfire ammo. Now before the flaming starts let me tell you why. If you really truly enjoy shooting handguns you'll end up with at least 9mm or a 40 and most likely something more, like a 45 or 44. Everyone says learn the essentials with a rimfire and the cheap ammo. Well I don't think you learn as much with a 22 as with something larger. You have to learn to shoot with the noise, muzzle flash and recoil of a larger gun and you'll never learn these with a 22.
Sure you'll learn trigger control and sight picture with the 22 but you'll fall asleep from boredom. Look around at how many guys buy their first handgun, a 22, and a month later have a Glock or M+P or Ruger while the 22 gather dust. Maybe they should have skipped the 22.
I agree, that was always my mindset.
