Looking to make some lapua brass for my 280ai.

They make it in 7x64 brenneke. I’ve heard you can fire 7x64 in a 280 Remington, so I assume I could fire form in a 280ai chamber with no additional step?

If not I guess it’s the 3006/false shoulder method.

That’s a good reason for sure, but I have a line on some 7x64 that’s cheap enough to make that point moot.

So does anybody know the answer to the original question?

You probably have to neck it first and then neck down again in the 280 AI die to form a false shoulder. The shoulder on the 280 is further forward to prevent it from being chambered in a 270.

7x64Brenneke has a smaller diameter rim and base... .005" and .007" respectively to be precise. It's slightly less of an issue using this brass for making 280AI than it is forming 6.5x55 from 270, 280, 30-06 etc. The Brenneke case is also about .030" shorter than the standard 280 and with greater body taper.
