Hi.

Tried to shoot the old Ithaca 37. Didn't fire. After a check, i see a pin on the ground. The damn firing pin was broken in half.

So i'm looking for a replacement. Where is the best place for this? Any of it in Canada?

Not sure who's handling Ithaca in Canada today but I wouldn't be surprised if the current pins are the same as the older ones.....

On the US Ithaca site, they say it need a specific 2 3/4" pin for guns made before 1978 and i more specific one for 28 gauge. Others gauge use the same pin. The one i have is a 12ga slamfire, so it's before 1978 for sure. I just don't know who can sell this kind of part here in Canada.

Western gun parts might have one.... there is a retired ex Ithaca guy in Canada that apparently has lots of parts..... someone will be along shortly with his name.

Ron Sharp in Ontario. Is he still alive? Last I heard, years ago, he was "mostly retired" and could only be contacted by snail mail, wherever he had holed up to.

Ithaca in the US should be able to send you one easy enough.

Maybe, maybe not. Ithaca has gone bankrupt a number of times over the years. The current company that operates under the name "Ithaca Gun Company" makes "Ithaca like objects." Not all the parts are interchangeable. Add to that, they have all the business savvy of an Oakie in New York, and when they relaunched, they went out of their way to pick underfunded/sketchy Canadian importers, things went badly, so now they've completely sworn off dealing with the Canadian market.

Best Bet is Numrich:

The shipping and import fees are nasty, but it works out Ok if you can find someone else who's ordering and do a group buy.

I've emailed them several times about compatibility issues and they have been great to deal with and very fast with replies. If you speak to Prophet River they should be able to help out if one didn't want to order off the Ithaca website as they are now a dealer. On Ithaca's website there is options for what gauge of M37 and shell length with serial number cutoff, if it falls within those parameters I don't see why it would not fit his gun.

I've ordered parts direct from Ithaca and used them on a vintage production gun with no issues.

Just be aware that if the firing pin has popped out its a given that at least one other part will need to be replaced as well.

You might also want to grab some extra parts like shell stop and magazine springs while you're at it.

As an aside, if there is one spare shotgun part that it's wise to keep on hand it's spare firing pins.

For whatever reason they seem to break more often than is the case with other types of firearms.
