Wondering if anyone out there can suggest a Canadian source for a firing pin for a Colt 1905 .45 caliber or Colt 1903 Military .38 calibre. As far as I know, the two guns use the same firing pin part. It's a copper firing pin. Maybe a Canadian dealer has one, or maybe someone has one in their parts bins.

According to their website, Numrich USA has them, but it would be nice to find one in Canada.

Thanks for any help.

I would guess that it's made of brass, not copper.

Here is a pic of what it looks like. It is the same firing pin as used in the Colt 1902 Military and Colt 1902 Pocket (with hammer). The unbroken pin in the picture is from a Colt 1902 Military.

Anyone have one of these in their parts bins or know of a gun smith in Canada that may have one? Numrich has them, but their international handling fee is prohibitive for a small purchase.

Yep, brass they are.

If you have a lathe that broken one is easily repairable or a new one could be made in no time at all.

As far as a repair goes, the pin is measured as if it was still intact then it could be faced (just to the shoulder), bored and an insert fitted of the right diameter, contour and length.

I do have access to a mini lathe, although I'm not good with it. Would you drill the hole using the lathe? I suppose that a drill press would not be as accurate.

What would you use as stock for the firing pin insert?

If anyone out there cares to try making up one of these from scratch, I'll be happy to pass on the dimensions.

I would first make sure I had accurate measurements then (in a lathe) face off the front without removing any of the shoulder then drill the appropriate size for the insert.
I would likely use brazing rod or brass rod for the insert.
There is a bit of lathe work involved but much less than making a complete firing pin. The insert could be soft soldered in place, just make sure it is fully seated.

I would make you one but don't have a lathe YET.
