Is there a trick to replace the firing pin on a Winchester 1892. I've got the bolt out but I'm having difficulty in gettting the firing pin stop pin out. I've bent my brass punch without any movement of the pin. Any suggestions before I have to result in drilling it out? Is there some kind of press I should be using?

Going thru the same thing right now........soak it. Like Beater says. My 92 is 101 yrs old. and Im pretty damn sure Im the only guy that ever removed the firing pin

Ok...it's soaking now and I've got my fingers crossed. Anybody heard of putting it in the freezer to shrink the metal??? I thought I heard of this being done in some automotive applications. If the oil doesn't work I may give that a try.

id leave it in the oil for a week or so, then give it a try. you probably will need something tougher than a brass drift, aswell.
putting it in the freezer wont do much i dont think.
however..... i have used that trick to put tolerance fit stuff together. put the female piece in the toaster over, get it up to around 100- 150, put the male piece in the freezer for a half hour. when all is right, be fast, and it sometimes makes a hard job simple

Thread resurrection here...

My Browning 92 is having issues with some ammo. Is it common to have to replace the firing pin on these guns? Dad may have been loading it a bit hot in days gone by...

If I tip the gun back before firing (and the back of the pin is all the way out) it fires every time. If the gun is tipped forward (the back firing pin is barely exposed) then it will often not fire.

Is there a cause for this other than the firing pin? Will I have to remove the bolt from the gun to take the pin out??
