My second day at the range with my new (to me) NEF 17HMR. Shot my best 100 yard 5 shot group at 1-5/12" c/c. I am pretty happy with that considering my abilities and experience with this rifle. I used a scissor jack as a front rest. Hope to improve on this next time I get out. I think that this rifle/ammo should be able to shoot alot tighter groups that I can!

I observed that a really tight hold on the buttstock with my free arm and a loose grip at the trigger being especially careful to pull straight back & not pull the rifle to the right as I pulled the trigger seemed to make a big difference.

Sounds like your off to a good start! Looks like you have allready done a good job experimenting to see what hold works - try experimenting with other variables too such as ammo, positionin on rest, trigger execution, etc!. Pretty good considering your rest... If you can try shooting off a benchrest and i think you will find it will group tighter. even if you are steady on the target with what you are shooting now i think you will find a rest gives you a more consistent follow through and will tighten your groups more!

Good luck :)

Nice shooting!

I found my .17 to be very ammo sensitive....I'm still trying different ammo to try and tighten my groups..some ammo was 4" others were dime sized groups with 5 shots.
