I'm waiting for my RPAL to be processed and considering my first purchase in the meantime. I'm pretty interested in starting with a 1911. My favourite so far is the SW1911 performance center. Anyone have any experience with this pistol? Other thoughts?

which one? if its one of the ones with holes in the slide, just be aware its not particularly useful/competitive if you want to shoot IPSC with it

The slide has cutouts but the barrel is not ported, strange that S&W didn't do that .

not really, for IPSC standard division guns its pretty common because it reduces recoil and lets the gun shoot flatter, so it will do the same things for the s&w guns, however for standard division you want a double stack gun for ease of reloads and the s&w guns are single stack. The division that you use a 1911 for doesn't allow you to make cuts in the slide like that. That's why I say its not particularly good for IPSC

:agree: but I was just referring to the fact that the barrel isn't compensated like the Glock "C" models. It would be really cool if they did since the slide cutouts are already there.

The S&W PC 1911 are awesome gun to shoot. I have the commander round butt with scandium frame and the weight is like feather.
You feel a little bit more recoil since the light weight but it is dead accuracy out to 20m~25m range.

I have a Smith 1911, E series. It is a real quality handgun and very accurate.

How can you say that? Perfect IPSC Classic/Standard Gun, IDPA SSP, CDP gun. I have an E series S&W and use it in IPSC Classic, Standard, and IPDA CDP and SSP. I have won matches in all these division with it. Why would the performance center not be? It is even better than the E series. Slide lightened only , barrel is not ported. I say Standard gun because you can use it in Standard you will only have 8 rounds in it though which is a disadvantage.

It comes that way, right from the factory.

If it breaks a regulation or rule, just post it here so we can all read it ourselves.

Thanks for all the input. I'm still considering a 1911, but I decided to get an M&P .22 CA to get started. Should have it in about a week or so.

Just when you believe the world is st@pid enough.........

So what are you saying?? That it's stupid you can't use the gun in an IPSC event as it's been modified from a standard 1911 design, that S&W didn't port the barrel, that people are trying to understand the IPSC classification of the firearm .. or ??? Your comment doesn't add anything to this thread as it stands, just you saying how intelligent you are compared to everyone else. If you're not willing to help educate people looking for information then you're part of the very problem you seem to be so exacerbated with.

I am merely expressing my own opinion, just as you just voiced yours.

If you don't like mine that's your tuff luck only sir.

Spectacular!! And what a Lovely and informative opinion. As I have that firearm and was considering looking into IPSC I was trying to discern if the firearm could be used. What had been posted was a little ambiguous so I was looking for clarification. I was asking a question not giving an unwanted useless opinion. Is this your way of growing IPSC members?
